Texas is not a rivalry team. Arch Manning has nothing to do with Tennessee Vols. It’s a stretch and I’m totally against this especially with someone that never even gave us a look. We gonna do this for ever former player who is kin to and incoming team?

Has nothing to do with Manning.

Texas is our biggest home game this season and the first time that a NEW national blueblood like us is coming to Neyland since Oklahoma

It's appropiate

Who else would we checker for then? We never checker Neyland against Bama, we wouldn’t do it for Kentucky, we have standards. LSU, we hate Kiffin so we maybe could have done LSU but if I’m not mistaken the latest we’ve ever checkered Neyland was when we played Florida in ‘24? Correct me if I’m wrong. Also i

Oklahoma wasn't a rival first time they did it for that game. Some of us just GOTTA bitch about something

We've done this since 2014 a total of 9 times I think. Georgia, Florida, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and probably the rest against Florida. Don't think we played any of these games later in the season.

Georgia in 25. We’ve done it once every year of the Heupel era

There will be alot of that before and after the LSU game. Because of you know who. We need to make sports highlights for beating LSU and not what usually happens when you know who in in Knoxville.

Texas is insufferable, but some of their fans are pretty cool. I’m fine with any of their fans who travel getting the full Neyland experience for their first game here. Call it a real big stop on their “thank the Lord we’re finally in a real conference” tour.

Both teams are orange and white. So the away section won't stick out like a sore thumb. What we have here is an opportunity for the checkerboard and atmosphere to be about as perfect as it can be.

Texas is also the best candidate for a new rivalry we've had in basically forever. The whole "real UT" thing, Texas copying Tennessee at every turn, and Manning connections add intrigue to the game. There are going to be storylines ESPN can sell and it's an early season clash where everyone will have something to play for. It's liable to be one of the biggest games of the weekend. It makes perfect sense to lean into it.

Checkered Neyland is a sign of respect for our opponents’ fans. “We acknowledge your rowdiness and this is what Tennessee has to offer.”

Ole Miss game was a mistake.

Added edit:
Auburn deserves Checkered Neyland at some point. Jordan Hare is a fine game environment.

Texas game is the only one that makes sense.
I think when we did later in the season one year (maybe 2023 aTm) it didn't look as crisp because there aren't a ton of options in heavier outerwear for colder weather.

It has to be mid-season so the weather cooperates and it looks good.

FYP. I thought I’d combine the two threads.
