Sounds like Faizon has a big lead on Macintyre going into the fall

He knows probably not much more than any of us do. That being said, if Faizon is the real deal and can navigate into the position where he's earned it and is the obvious choice, then he gives us a big upside over the next 3 years. The things that make me still think it's GMAC is that JH usually seems to give the QB position to "next in line", and a frosh coming in at QB and successfully starting in SEC is very rare.

My question is whether the QB competition is real. We all know coaches can script scrimmages and personnel to favor one player over another. Do you (average fan) think they’d never do that? Well, you’re a fool. Yes, FB is the “better” prospect. Still, this staff wanted a transfer starter and was willing to pay. They just couldn’t close the deal when the market went way north of what was expected. They already have over $3 million tied up in QBs. Hell, FB is a way better “prospect” than the Mendoza ever was. Even up to the end of his Junior year.

Here’s the reality. This is a 7 win team by all prognosticators. If so, the fan base is going to agitate. Not a little, but a lot. They are spending top 10 lmoney by all accounts, but have the lowest odds of ANY top 10 spender. And it isn’t close. Indiana who has the 4th best odds to win it all, is spending half of what Tennessee is in 2026. Don’t believe these numbers? Fine. Enjoy your entertainment district, because that’s what you’re getting. The problem is that UTs money isn’t tied up primarily in its starting 22, or proven production. It’s tied up in the future. It’s tied up in hope.

Heupel has failed to maneuver the NIL waters and the AD is making excuses that we aren’t tampering due to probation. It was basically a confession that if the current sanctions weren’t in effect, we’d be tampering. So, he’s recruited heavier at the high school level. Sadly, this hasn’t stopped the massive outflow of transfers. Teams like UGA and OSU have the lowest roster turnover. They recruit well and develop their talent. The UT roster has been a revolving door in comparison, but unlike Ole Miss or Indiana, it hasn’t been with an equal inflow of experienced and proven production. Our highest paid transfer has barely played and is having a personal crisis that calls into question his future. This came at the expense of multiple players at the same position leaving. Players that likely would have made a big step due to their experience and the new S&C coach. Oh well.

So, the pitch is going to be the future. You will begin to hear a narrative develop from state run radio and its compliant minions about 2027. And Faizon is the poster child for this movement. It’s not going to be the skinny kid who can’t gain weight. The coaches, consciously or subconsciously are going to put their finger on the scales. Whether that involves what plays are installed or favored in scrimmages (or not), one on one attention, or personnel placed around the QBs, Faizon is going to be favored. If you don’t think it’s true, then you didn’t watch the Joe Milton story. Do you really think Milton was really that superior in practice? Or, did they practice and run plays to his strengths, while Hendon was put in more difficult situations? You don’t think that happens? Well, you’re a cuck.

I hope Brandon comes in and absolutely rips it!

If there is that much of a gap, there are bigger issues that need to be looked at in development and recruiting.
Its either that or Brandon is just a superstar athlete. All in on the 'play who gives you the best chance to win' theory but would feel bad for GMac waiting his turn and not getting a chance to start. Tough situation. Hope its does not come down to who gets the most NIL $.

My opinion and a shinny nickel will get you a steaming cup of jack sh!t, but I want to see both get equal playing time until we have a clear winner. Every man has his own special skill set. One guy might have the legs to be a mobile quarterback. One guy might have lasers straight accuracy. One guy might be able to think on the fly and ad-lib to keep plays alive. That's what hendon hooker was awesome at. So was Josh Dobbs. Let's give these guys a fair shake on a real field against real opponents. I remember the quarterback competition between Milton and hooker when Josh first took over. He gave that job to Milton at first. It wasn't until we actually got into the real games that hendon hooker actually started really shining.

I totally agree that Heupel has shown the tendency to go with the next in line, but he has shown by the defensive overhaul that he understands what is in front of him. Hopefully he has realized, there is no, survive until next season. It's win now with the best guys on the field.

Otherwise, by early November, this board will be talking about the next coach in line.

Hooker was better in game scenarios, he wasn't a great qb in practice and it showed in the league. They're both D1 quarterbacks, they're both elite recruits, and they both have a certain skill set. We'll find out this fall. I know that coaches favor a certain QB, but we don't know who that is, we can't read minds, and we don't have full practice tapes.

But....look at the program now compared to where it was from 2008-2020. Heupel deserves a lifetime contract!

I get it's a joke but that statement still pmo. That's how Georgia went 15 years with Mark Richt without a national title. That's how James Franklin never won a meaningful game when it mattered at Penn State. Until we win a national championship, the mentality has to be happy but never satisfied.

I've just never been impressed with Gmac. However, lots of folks who are around him are really high on the guy. I think they'll start with gmac and transition down the home stretch this upcoming season, but much can change between now and August.

That’s all we have here is our opinions. My point is that had the coaching staff realized the benefits of Hooker, they would have emphasized and highlighted those attributes more in practice. It would’ve determined how reps were distributed and how the playbook was filtered and implemented. Up until that point, whether consciously or unconsciously, the coaching staff had emphasized Milton’s strengths and mitigated his weaknesses.
I’m not even saying it’s nefarious. Folks that want an even and fair competition going into the season. Don’t realize that it’s not gonna happen. They are going to pick and favor a QB and begin shaping all their efforts towards that QB. Anyone who doesn’t believe that is just drinking Kool-Aid.

Lmfao “our freshman is doing great, how can I make this into a negative”
But that’s not in line with the facts that came out of spring camp. The reality is that both QBs struggled to execute the offense. I would love it if there were some indication that Brandon was operating at this elite level, but that’s just not the case.
