Any thoughts on the McIntyre family influence and donor leverage at Tennessee? I know they have one of the biggest family names in middle Tennessee, for instance, a McIntyre was the president at a well known school in Nashville when I was there. Could there be pressure to start McIntyre above Faison if this is the case?

There have been some major news outlets recently suggesting Faizon is the superior option while more local sources I.E. Volquest continue to suggest the quarterback race is neck and neck. This has made me wonder if Tennessee is trying to keep George McIntyre in the race for family sake.

Any thoughts on how much weight the McIntyre name has at the University of Tennessee?

Maybe they just want to keep both guys heads in the competition?

I’ve thought and continue to think that George will start and Faizon will take over before the end of the year. If George is struggling though and a true freshman is already ahead I figure Heupel will start the freshman. Heupel just likes older QBs that he has seen in a lot of situations and seen how they react

This is probably the most likely answer. My post is mainly to gather just how much weight the McIntyre name carries at Tennessee.

Is it the same McIntyre?
I mean my last name is Rockefeller, but pretty sure I'm eating bean soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner tonight (not really, but you see my point).

If it is the same McIntyre family, I do wonder as well if the contributions are such to the school, athletic department, and NIL fund are large enough to place any pressure.
I doubt Heupel rolls that way...I think he feels the guy that gives him the best chance is going to play, which is sad considering what we suffered through with the Drama in Payjamas.

I don’t have the family tree, but I would be shocked if they were not related, based on how large and connected I know the McIntyre family name is in Middle Tennessee.

I’m from middle Tennessee and do not know of them. What are they involved in?

Should this be in the tennis forum?
OP, (some think) money does have influence.
So sad to air that out in public. If Casey Clausen hadn’t had a shoulder problem coming out of the preseason, Joey Matthews might not have gotten a single snap.

Makes no sense. Why would he just randomly take over from the starter?

The purpose of this thread is to gather more information on this question. When I was at school, it was talked about more then once how large and connected the McIntyre name is from teachers and classmates. It’s been a long time since I thought of the name and their supposed influence. A quick google search will tell you they are involved in schools, churches, and businesses.

Wiki said his family is involved in football-coaching. Grandfather coached UTM and Vandy. Uncle coached Colorado. Second generation BA players?

Mathews looked awful in that one game. His parents sound delusional about his talent.

Sounds about right. Fulmer treated Patrick Willis about the same way. Told him everything he wanted to hear until he thought he found someone better, then ghosted him like the Fulmer was.

It funny a couple of years later the Clausens thought Rick got screwed out of the starting job
Funny because I always thought Rick knew his limitations. I mean, it took almost an entire quarter for the ball to travel on an on an out pattern and, that’s why he let it go before the receiver even went into his break. Much less during. Kid did win us some games though.

I always felt the CJ/Chris/Juicy leak situation (drama) was the worst.

Joey Matthew’s family were losers. Clausen was our 2nd best QB ever and Matthews barely could compete in East TN HS ball when it wasn’t even as good as today
