What underclassmen will be leaving the Vols for the draft? Tegan Kuhns for sure. Who else?

Henry Ford?
Levi Clark?
Blake Grimmer?
Manny Marin?
Garrett Wright?

Basically im asking what our team looks like next year.

I assume we’ll probably add a starting pitcher and outfielder from the portal at least. Then hopefully a bunch of bullpen arms. Most our position players should be back though, unless they transfer themselves

I think we need 2 starting pitchers, 2nd, SS, 3rd, OF. As always, a lot depends on the draft.

I wouldn’t draft Marin. Only guys I think are definitely gone are Kuhns and Ford. Appenzeller and Wright may also go. Grimmer may also go. Decent hitting 2nd baseman hard to find

Lineup may be very good. Assuming Wright and Marin come back:

C - Lawless/Wright/Grindlinger
1B - Clark
2B - Grimmer (personally think he’s gone)/Myatt/Newstrom
SS - Marin (personally think he returns)/Antigua
3B - Bates/Newstrom
RF - Brown (arm strength)/Newstrom
CF - Wright (personally think he’s back)
LF - Abernathy/Eisfelder

Need Clark, Abernathy, Brown to improve as they should. There are other talented players on the roster I haven’t mentioned who could end up starting. Portal will bring some help.

Wright & Marin are good as gone

Would be shocked if Newstrom doesn’t transfer somewhere back closer to home.

Could be right but if I’m a MLB I’m not touching Marin with a high draft pick. Wright is my favorite player but he’s barely 6’ and doesn’t have much power 🤞 hell of a player though just hoping we get lucky

Marin isn't sniffing that list despite being a highly regarded preseason draft candidate.

Where is Appenzeller going? He’s just a freshman.

If we lose the guys on that list and keep the ones who aren’t on it, I’ll be thrilled.

I get super frustrated with Marin, but he’s a pretty athletic SS who has started ~100~ or so games in the SEC and still just 21 and growing into his body

I wouldn’t be shocked either way with him

The baseball draft eligibility rules can be a bit quirky, and have several differentiators from basketball/football.

The first big difference is that you do not declare for the MLB draft. If you are eligible, you may be selected. This does not cost you eligibility or mean that you have to sign. For the most part, you are draft eligible after your senior high school season (if you graduate early, under a certain age, etc., there are some restrictions - Bryce Harper was an example of this). If you go the college route, there are two paths with their own draft eligibility rules - JUCO and 4-year. If you attend a JUCO, you are draft eligible after every/any season. If you attend a 4-year school, you are draft eligible 3 years after your high school graduation (junior/redshirt soph year) and beyond. If you turn 21 within so many days (I think it's 90 maybe?) of the draft, you are draft eligible as a sophomore (Marin & Kuhns this year, Curley last year).

Due to leverage with signing bonuses, it is typically in the best interest of the player to be drafted and sign early (hence draft eligible sophs going when selected). Guys out of eligibility - such as Chapman, Blanco - will not have much leverage since they can't just decline to sign and go back to play another year in college. MLB/MLBPA collective bargaining agreement expires this coming offseason and many expect a work stoppage next season. That possibility will throw a wrinkle in the decisions of drafted kids with remaining eligibility (will there be MLB baseball next year, will draft bonuses go up/down based on new agreement, will there be fewer minor league teams/levels, will number of rounds in draft change, etc.).
