But they have collective bargaining and other pro sports what’s wrong with it??
Do you want the Vols to be a pro franchise and can UT maintain its non profit status as a pro franchisee. There are legal issues related to structure and whatnot that I don't understand but I've heard are an IRS issue.

If the players are employees of the school, what about the non revenue sports? Are those players not athletes who represent the school and deserving of employee status? Are we going to pay them all and negotiate with them as part of the collective bargaining?

It's not as simple as: let's just have collective bargaining. It implies the players are employees and that is a big can of worms.

Everybody wants to talk about players getting paid , poor them!...How about getting a FREE BOAT UNIVERISTY SCHOLARSHIP that most of us would dream of? Huh, Huh? . Took years and years to pay mine! Most of you would understand. HOW ABOUT ROOM AND BOARD, meals, books, pencils, fees, with a blessing and hopeing your professior likes you rather than free grades cause you can catch a ball? Doing your own homework & assignments, being a adult?? It's outta hand obdured, ridiculous, and the WWE...?? Huh? been there? huh? I'm all for players getting a little taco bell money during their free ride but 6+ figures..

Tell me I'm wrong...

You're wrong. Can you play a sport better than 80% of the humans on the planet? If so, it's a marketable skill that schools OFFER..... read that again..... OFFER much more money than a scholarship and have for decades.

Killing the goose that laid the golden egg. This is all so ugly
I agree. It's been dying since the competition for players became such that players were offered ridiculous money under the table to come play. It didn't get better when the NCAA lost to the schools to keep big TV money and exposure from making the competition worth even more money for the schools.

It certainly isn't better now but it's the nature of competition and markets in America so what do you do?

I mean, other than to a pro model with salary caps, trade restrictions, free agency, drafts, etc, what can you do in America about good old American competitive bidding?

Not sure about all this, but do believe the bill in front of congress will pass...basically, limiting transfers, 5yrs to play and player NIL caps (which will be set by schools committee). SEC and B10 oppose it b/c they want to hoard $$$... not saying I blame them...I may be in minority, but not sure it's good for CFB as a whole for the two largest entities to be making decisions for the "greater good" of the sport.

The Cruz-Cantwell bill would need 75% of the FBS schools (104 schools, I think) to approve pooling the TV money. The SEC and B1G make up about 35+/- schools and ND will also not likely vote to cut their money.

The math ain't gonna math unless some SEC and B1G schools and ND get onboard.

Sorry but that ship has sailed and is never coming back. Players are not going to accept “Taco Bell” money anymore and the courts have slapped down the NCAA in every single case that it has tried to limit it. There needs to be some semblance of control and rules but it is NEVER going back to the old system. How control is attained in the question.

The other issue with your stance is that you seem to be OK with the NCAA and the universities making billions on the players’ backs and the players getting “Taco Bell” money. Sorry but that dog won’t hunt now.

Reminds me of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" when he tells the "Group W bench" guys he's being refused induction because of littering.

"They all moved away from me on the bench....."

…or get major concessions…which they deserve in most cases.

I've a sneaking suspicion (and I've seen some reports) that after the August break for midterms and campaigning, this bill gets tabled and disappears.

My faith in Congress is non-existent. They'll hold hearings and convene committees and make statements about this and that related to the NCAA and the Courts and NIL but they're better at hobnobbing with guys like Saban than legislating.

IMO this is just another smokescreen to keep the pressure on limiting what players make and their ability to move around versus that of coaches who can move on a whim and make as much as the market will allow.

For sure. Govt intervention is rarely a good thing, and meddling in sports just seems out of balance w priorities…I mean what could go wrong! Ha
