College football is changing faster than a costume swap at a Taylor Swift concert. Some changes are for the better, some not. NIL, Transfer Portal, Conference realignment to name just three, but the Brendon Sorsby scandal is on a different level. OK a judge in Lubbock Texas is as about neutral as a Hillary Clinton donor, but if Sorsby is allowed to play this year it will create doubt on every result and if you cannot trust the product then there is no product worth watching. this is THIS BIG.

Now even family members of the NCAA will find it hard to be supporters of the NCAA, but finally they have a chance to do some good by simply excluding Texas Tech from the College Football playoffs. Now I deliberately said exclude not ban as any ban will just land up in court by the deep pockets boosters of TTU, just do not select them.

Fortunately the Selection Committee has a deeply flawed criteria which is broadly subjective (Florida St went 13-0 if I recall and still did not make the playoffs). So teach Universities that they cannot run complete roughshod over the sport by using the one lever they still have and that is admittance to the CFP.. I never thought I would write this but come on NCAA we are all with you.

Sorsby admits to gambling on CFB. Sorsby has entered a program for gambling addiction. If TTech still wants him to start as their quarterback, or if the courts are “forcing their hand,” then I agree with LondonVol in that TTech should be denied participation in the CFP. Will that happen? Or are we in a period of our history during which corruption is “OK” at numerous levels?

the NCAA doesn't control the CFP...

I saw where the Georgia instructed their people to not schedule Texas Tech in any sport. Not sure that means anything but I wonder if any Big 12 schools will have to courage to do it.
TT is taking college sports down a very bad and dangerous rabbit hole. Hope this can be stopped. Maybe GA's ruling will get more teams to join in. Read where Big 12 AD's were already discussing boycotting TT for league games next season (mentioned in a post above). Hope they follow thru.

Would you agree that Sorsby should sit out this season and be able to demonstrate that he has refrained from gambling on CFB as a condition of reinstatement? Would you contend that he’s done for CFB because of his gambling? Or, are you OK with his continuing to play as long as he attends Gamblers Anonymous and refrains from gambling on CFB?

I personally fear the “age of accountability” has left the planet. Of course, we’ll ALL face accountability one day but this Sorsby issue seems to magnify a deep and troubling trend. Should he be allowed to play after this fiasco? Clearly not, but Texas Tech seems to have embraced the era of NIL in ALL its sports programs and all its tempting allures just for the win column. Feels like a sad day for sports.

What if Sorsby plays this season and is found to have continued to gamble on CFB? What consequences would you have for him and TTech?
If that were to happen I would venture a guess and say that Sorsby would already be on his way to the draft so what consequences could he have? Tech would be the only ones on the hook for that and I would say they would try to fight any infractions because they would stand on the ground that Sorsby was no longer there.

This whole situation is creating a lot of loop holes. It's sad really

Neither the CFP or AA will cut off a cash flow like that. You got to pay to play we just didn’t know how many and how far it was going to go.

It’s generally politicians that are so ignorant of the Law of Unintended Consequences, but now it seems college sports have taken it to a whole new level.

If every team on Tech’s schedule refuses to play, is it a forfeit? If so, Tech finishes at 12-0. How does a CFP committee, if it goes that far, justify a team that is undefeated but didn’t play a single second, put them into a playoff?? And, do the teams that forfeited said games get the forfeited game excluded from overall record?? Interesting times….

Great comments! Every fumble, interception, or other mistake Sorsby makes in a game this year will be met with scrutiny now.

Couldn’t agree more with you on this. College football is headed down a road to ruin if they allow this crap. The kid should never play again end of story. We couldn’t get Joey back another season but this gambling fool gets to play something ain’t right with that and it stinks to the core.
