Blaine Brown Returning 2027

I believe this is a big mistake. We overpaid. His fielding is atrocious and it only took a few weeks for scouts to peg him at the plate. I would’ve rather E kept Marin and moved on from Brown.
No one knows how much or how little was paid for Brown. His upside and skill set is tremendous. I bet you’d be shocked how little he’s receiving.

1. You don’t know what we paid
2. Brown has so much more potential than Marin. We have seen countless times in this program where the light didn’t turn on for guys till their junior/senior year. If you’re going to take a risk, take it on a guy with 25+ HR potential, it also doesn’t hurt he can run it up to 95 on the mound too

Which player would you choose after their Sophomore season?

Player A
.211/.336/.351 with 24 hits, 1 double, 5 HRs, 11 RBIs, 29Ks, 18 walks
Player B
.233/.313/.448 with 27 hits, 4 doubles, 7 HRs, 18 RBIs, 36Ks, 12 walks

Most would obviously choose Player B (Blaine Brown). Player A was a young Blake Burke

Some of these folks need to call JG Wentworth they want there monies worth Now . 🤔😉

Edit. I wish the coaches knew as much about the players as most fans seem to know.

As FR, Burke only played 45 Gs, starting 22, with 95 ABs while Brown played 54 Gs, starting 54, with 209 ABs.

As SO, Burke moved into a starting role while Brown started for a second year. Yes, Brown stepped up in competition level but amount of playing time is not equivalent between Burke & Brown through their first two years.

Burke had a significant jump between SO/JR year in SEC play. We can only hope Brown does the same but I would say he is behind when comparing improvement/production with Burke at the same point in their careers based on playing time.

Apples and oranges. I was comparing Soph seasons in SEC. SEC pitching is deep and elite. Brown had never seen the depth and consistent quality of arms that he saw this past season. I’m not saying he will take a Burke like jump as Burke was one of most improved players in all of college baseball his junior year. I’m just saying too many fans are writing Brown off and they don’t understand that players can and do get better.

While clearly BB struggled, especially at the plate, I'm hoping he takes that leap next season and we see what CLEARLY appears to be a huge upside possibility. I have no doubts he's working on pitch recognition and probably swing length as well. Two very difficult things to improve. He seems to have the intangibles to achieve at a high level!

Brown is assigned to the Cape Cod league. He’s not going to learn anything there.

I’m truly convinced that the intangibles make or break players at this level, all of them are talented baseball players.
Work ethic, attitude, desire, heart…

Another great example about players improving: Daniel Jackson (player of the year in college baseball).

Last year at GA he hit:
.218/14HR/36RBI

Brown this year hit:
.240/13HR/42RBI
Wow. Great comparison. He crushed it at Wofford but struggled mightily during his first SEC season.

I’m 62 and stand a better chance hitting outside breaking ball. He swings and whiffs every time
