If we learn nothing else from the WV game,

1. We have to get better at shooting 3s
2. We have to shoot more 3s.

About 25% of our shots were 3s. And we were something like 2 for 20.

About 33% of WVs shots were 3s and they made 38%.

And that was the difference in the game.

Speaking of Baylor it will be interesting to see how they do vs WV on the 10th.

I don't think you can be bad at the 3 and be good at basketball these days.

When Baylor won the title in 2019 they averaged only 3 made 3s a game. They shot 37%. My point was the 3 ball doesn’t have to be a big part of your game if you do other things well.

Brittany Griner also has to be factored into that equation. And as much of a force as she was, Baylor only won title with her, often getting knocked out by teams that bombed them from outside, as in the loss to Louisville.
3pt shooting is a part of the game. If you can spread out defenses, they can easily pack the paint; clogging passing lanes and double teaming posts. And a team tries to drive and force the ball into the post under those conditions, the result if often TOs? There is relationship between poor outside shooting and TOs.

{Edit-- whoops, I missed the 2019 reference and was thinking about the earlier Baylor championship with Griner but as pointed out in the thread below-2019 Baylor had a 6-8 force Kalani Brown in the paint]

Several times today we made 3 passes right under the basket and each time lost the ball....Shoot the ball!!!!
And yes, the 3 ball is big..That is why Karoline and Sara are coming here, and Justine the year after that....The 3 point shot is like the pass in football..It has changed the game.

Would I like to see us shoot better from outside? Absolutely!

Do I think we will shoot better? Better than last game for sure.

We know the state of field goal shooting. We fans have been watching for years. It's been "pound the ball inside" for a long time. It's hard to change sometimes. It would be helpful if we were more successful when we put the ball up down low.

I do believe we will get better under the new staff. Kellie has to have a chance to recruit shooters who can defend to go with the ones we have now. Last class was a start. There are some shooters in it. This class appears to have started well by adding Justine. Lets see how it turns out.

Good post Ricky....

I often dread our big posts getting the ball down low...Too many times they miss the shot, or turn it over...

It will be nice when our outside shooters arrive next season, and then Justine arrives. And then look out mama.

But until then, we are who we are.
