3rd Sat in Oct opposing coach thread

That shows the out of touch with reality mentality of the bammer nation. Saban is making serious coin in Miami and still has time without feeling much heat. He is buliding a team that will compete in the NFL. What a step down to come to bammer. NO WAY! Hell they were lucky to get Mike "the Breck Girl" Shula. How many times do they have to be turned down by top coaches?

I think Saban is smart enough not to dismiss anything out of hand, and will likely listen if they want to talk. That is a million miles away though, from really considering a return to the SEC.

I'd love for him to do it though, the league would be much stronger for his presence...

Having a "yankee" coach at LSU was surpriseing. But to have the necks in bammer land to have a "yankee" as their ball coach?
Besides I imagine that the fins are paying him way too much $ for bammer to be able to get him away. Maybe hate knows how much he is getting.

From my perspective this entire episode is fascinating even if it turns out to be much ado about nothing. Interesting rumors spotted on Bama boards include:

1. Paul Bryant, Jr.'s private jet made 3 trips to Columbia, S.C. in recent weeks.

2. Shula was a no-show for his Monday night radio call-in show.

Just an observation but, Shula always looked as though he were out of his element on the sidelines to me.

This can only get worse in the absence of any definite word from the Bama president and AD.

'Billy, the private jet thing is just beautiful internet material...

I tend to agree. At this point, I think Alabama has to go the UGA Mark Richt route and try to hit the jackpot with a coordinator somewhere or a head coach from a lesser school.

The list is, in order:

1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Steve Spurrier
3. Nick Saban
4. Any living person that ever played for Bear Bryant.

Nick Saban from Don Shula's Dolphins to replace Shula's son at Bammer would create some interesting conversations.

If Alabama actually hired any of those first three, it would be lights out for the rest of the SEC.

Unfortunately, #4 will probably be the most likely and maybe lights out for us.
Spurrier is the only one of the three I think would even be an outside possibility. JJ isn't going to come in off Three Rings long enough to recruit and Saban's not going to abandon the NFL that quickly.

What's that Michigan State coach that's always slapping himself in the face doing now?

I don't think we need the SEC to get any stronger! We'll never win a NC the way it is currently; the conference schedule is a buzzsaw.

Saban probably would go to Bama, if Bama wanted to pay him 5M a year. Otherwise, I can't see any reason Saban would to Bama.

Is #1 the Nascar driver? Saban would be a fool to leave the $ the NFL is paying. Spurrier would be a fool to stay at Cockville if he had a chance to go to Bama but he is pretty hard headed. That leaves us with #4...

Looks like we will all have to chew on this through the weekend.

Scout.com: Moore Says Evaluation Continuing

"We are evaluating every aspect of our program and this is not a process that I wish to discuss at length in a public forum." Mal Moore

You'd think that if they were going to keep him someone would step-up and offer the vote of confidence. The wait continues...

added: Looks like Saban is definitely out. Prior reports of an offer being on the table are denied. al.com: Everything Alabama

P.S. eating a big bowl of chili before you go to bed is NOT a good idea.

boy, you're right about that, Bama is a sleeping giant, it's only their inept hires that have kept them down for so long

Oh, I think there was at least one other slightly negative factor.

Y'know their probation ends in Feb. IMO they got rid of Price and took Shula at least in part because they want to maintain a sqeaky clean image at least until the probation and threat of the death penalty is passed. They may now be prepared to overlook some character flaws in order to get results on the field???

Alabama (prestige wise) still is one of the top college football programs in the country (ND, Mich.,Ohio St.,Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Miami, Penn State). Eventually the will find a topnotch coach and return to the top. Then I move out of this state!!:whatever:
