Piggybacking of the Beer Barrel thread. What's Volnation thoughts on us playing Kentucky on the 3rd Saturday in November instead of around Halloween. This year on College Football Rivalry Saturday, 3rd Saturday in November, we are playing UTEP...UTEP! We are not playing a rival, Kentucky or Vanderbilt or Auburn or Florida but we playing a bad G5 UTEP.

I did enjoy when we closed our season with Kentucky and Vandy around Thanksgiving. Just seemed appropriate for some reason, I guess because of the prevalence of end of season in-state and border state rivalry games.

South Carolina should be the Halloween game imo just because of both teams' uniform colors, but it seems we won't be playing them yearly any longer. So I guess Kentucky works too, since they have a black uniform.

Obligatory "just win", etc.

I don't necessarily have an opinion one way or the other about giving it a certain week designation & "name", but I agree with Zeppelin....miss the days when those 2 games closed out the season. Just felt right to play them at the end. But maybe I felt that way because the schedule back then was always so top heavy? Not sure.

For years Florduh and Georgia were always early in the season and I always thought it hurt the team playing two of their biggest SEC games first.

If getting Florduh and UGAly later in the season means we have to keep this current format, then so be it. I do wish there could be a game between Florduh and Bummer, but it really doesnt matter when you beat both.

Who are we playing yearly?

Giving KY "third Saturday" status seems wrong to me. They're nothing like Alabama but the media, likely ESPN, would try to hype the game as "Tennessee's second "3rd Saturday" in a row with a test" or some nonsense.

Letting KY be meaningful enough to have a set date on the schedule, at least for me, isn't necessary.

They're a basketb...... er .... baseb...... uh..... well, they're just another SEC school.

I agree with this. I like having a schedule where the game dates change.

Uh...why? Is there something special about the 3rd Saturday in November that I'm not aware of? If we played UTEP on the First Saturday in November, would we be complaining that we should be playing a rival on the First Saturday in November? College football rivalry saturday is the weekend after Thanksgiving...when we play Vanderbilt. Every SEC school that has an instate rival plays them that Saturday. There is nothing special about the 3rd Saturday in November.

UT-UK is perfect on Halloween. Kentucky games used to be miserable on that tundra in Lexington in late November. I know. I attended many of them. Kentucky and Missouri are the two northernmost teams in the SEC. I prefer not to play either in mid or late November.

Starting a new tradition for UK in football? No thanks. The Kenturkey references in the the old KNS game day program cartoons back in the day were funny, but even then it wasn't always the 3rd Saturday in November. Sometimes it was the fourth when there were 5 Saturdays in November............like this year. Beer Barrel goes way back and so is a historical tradition. I'd rather have that back than to play in Lexington in the cold every other year.
