i am. we still aren't "there" yet, but i got to admit, this team has come a long way since last year. and before the season started, would anyone argue with 4-1 going in to the UGA game? frankly, i was kind of thinking 3-2 myslef.

things that still disappoint me:
1. still not convinced the O line can get push in the running game against quality sec defenses....and the fact memphis stopped us on 4 straight plays pissed me off.
2. kick off and punt coverage...feild position swings can win/lose games...we need to be a sure tackling team....
3. return team woes continue...good punter for Memphis, but we helped that out with some questionable decisons in the return game.
4. we have no answer for the option...i would expect every team we play to insert some option package when they play us.

having said all that...if you are going to make those kinds of mistakes, make them in a 41-7 beat down against memphis....learn, and get better. hard to nit pick that game today...but i'm sure Cut will.:)

things i'm happy with:
1. Eric Ainge...does this really need to be explained?
2. WR's...so much better than the last couple of years....very excited about these guys.
3. Coker....love the way he runs, love the wheels...
4. resiliancy...this team doens't wilt at the first sign of dispair like last year's team. they have short memories.
5. mistakes...there haven't been as many, and when there have been, they've been made up for...again, kind of goes back to resiliancy...i like the mental approach of this team. they are confident.

Plenty to be excited about as a vol...plenty to be concerned about...forutnately the excitement is outweighing the concerns right now...

Now go beat UGA, and let's head in to the off week 5-1, just outside the top ten, and get ready to end Bama's season.:peace2:

Hey Jake,

I hear you on the coverage teams. We have got to get better. It would be hard to go 97 yards on Georgia twice. Feild position will be huge in the game Saturday. We need to put some first team guys on these return and coverage teams. You watch some teams like Florida and Virginia Tech and that is a weapon for them. It just seems like we don't look at it that way.

But I will say James Wilhoit is kicking as good as anybody we have had at UT. The guy is having an All-American type year. He could be a factor Saturday.

Ainge is a different player. Cutcliffe has proved the talk about what he can do with quarterbacks is the amazing. The recievers are unbeliveable. All the talk is about Meachum and Swain (which they deserve) but Brent Smith played awesome yesterday. He had a bunch of big catches on third downs and made an awesome block on the Meachum touchdown.

I do agree with you on the running game. I am not sure we have the O-line to blow people off the ball in the SEC. But the way the defenses are now I am not sure anyone does. We have to be balanced. Cutcliffe will find a way to mix the run in with short passes and all that really matters is protecting Ainge long enough were he isn't running for his life like in the Florida game.

Coker and Hardesty are both good backs. I think we need to throw more on first down and run a little more on second. It seems like the runs that get stuffed are on first down or third down.

I think we can beat Georgia. I think we have more talent. But it is just as big a game for them as us. It is going to be tough. But I think we get a few turnovers and pull it off.

Two very good posts and I agree with everything said. Two big concerns, the O line giving Ainge enough time to throw and our special teams, especially against the return. I like to see the ball deep in the endzone on kickoffs because they won't return it but on our punts, I would be interested in opponent return yardage for the season. We are still having some troubles tackling the returner. Otherwise, I am an excited Vol!

GO VOLS! BEAT GEORGIA!

Ditto to all of the above, but wanted to add that I thought we defended the option a little better after the first couple of times Memphis ran it ... course I know, it was Memphis, not an SEC team, but ....

Man oh man, its all shaping up for a road victory for us. UGA barely beats Colorado and Mississippi, teams rated in the 70-80 range in the NCAA.

It's also setting me up for a HUGE letdown. :(

I think the thing you can safely say is that there is absolutely nothing for us to be afraid of. UGA has nothing that we haven't already seen this year.

Their defense is better than any we've seen this season. That said, unless we allow them to rush for 220+ yards, I think we will muster enough points to win.

Georgia is primed for a fall.

And I think we have just enough to get the job done.

I agree with that, I think if our defense steps up and plays we'll be ok and can sneak out of Athens with a win....If them beating us at home last year the way they did don't give our boys motivation, then I don't know what would....I think we can go down there and beat them, and beat them soundly but if we play bad, could be a long day

that's kind of where i'm at...they've only been able to score 14 pts a game against Col and Ole Miss....i'd be lying if i said i didn't think we could out score them.

you got to figure that part of the reason why uga was able to pull off those last 2 wins was also because they have more depth than ole miss and co. both of those teams just got tired and uga had still had gas in the tank

I'm thoroughly unconvinced they're defense is better overall than UF...they're solid against the run but secondary, I don't know about that. I feel our reciever tandem and with Ainge playing lights out, we should be able to put up points, maybe a good many points. Having Coker now makes the passing attack that much more lethal 'cuz we're balanced and somewhat unpredictable.:clapping:

Is it really that good of a defense though? Let's look at their opponents Total offense rankings shall we?

Western Kentucky - 62nd in total offense out of 118 teams in Division 1-AA..

South Carolina - 64th

Ole Miss - 99th

UAB - 106th

Colorado - 109th

I think that the jury is still out on how good the Dawg's defense really is. We'll see..

And Ole Miss and Colorado were fairly effective at running the ball on 'em.

I'm really getting excited about this game, because I think the Vols are vastly superior to GA. GA's defense is good, but I doubt as good as FLA's. A team of 70-year-old women probably could have put up 14 points each against Colorado and Ole Miss. In other words, I'm saying GA's offense is horrendously bad. I'm looking for a blowout in our favor, 27-10. IMO, GA has no business being in the top 20, maybe not even the top 25.

Don Tello says UT beats Georgia Saturday between the hedges. I can't wait. It is going to be a wonderful time down there. I hope I find some decent ticket prices like I have in the past in Athens. If anyone has tickets, respond to me please.

I don't think you can say they don't deserve to be in the top 25 yet. However I do think all the pieces are in place for UGA to be the UT of last year. I'am not saying they will but it could take an UGAly turn in Athens this year if Richt doesn't pick a QB and go with him the rest of the year.

Which QB will we see Saturday? Cox or Stafford? I didn't see who got the majority of the time last Saturday night in the Ole Miss game cuz I fell asleep...Who got the majority of the snaps in that game?

Joe T III is expected to start i think...he's supposed to be practicing this week, and if Richt has him avaiable, word is he'd like to start him.
