It’s possible. They threw for over 4,000 yards and 25 TDs on the year, though, so it’s not like they weren’t throwing the ball. Maybe he had trouble running his routes correctly or getting off of presses? Or completing his catches (though I’d have to find stats on how many receptions he made and times he was targeted each game for such)?Might have been hobbled by the team's play caller.
The 40-yard-dash is a great measure of straight line speed. Maybe he can't run routes, or gets jammed easily at the LOS. There's way more to playing WR than running fast in a straight line.A fair point brought up: if he’s that fast, you’d think he’d have averaged more than 14 yards per catch during his Longhorns career.
As great as he was at UT/Chicago/track...see Willie Gualt. He was only 6'1" and 180 in the pros and was not a physical receiver. But, he did have good hands and made the most of his talent and speed. His bread and butter was trying to get to the corner untouched then turning it up field with his world class burst. I remember at UT if he did get a clear cut on the corner the crowd was already on it's feet within two steps dow the sideline cause he was probably going places at that point. Same with Lenny Patrick back in the day at Bama. Only he had a screwed up head. This kid Worthy can find a niche in the NFL with that speed. Someone will take him to see if they can develop him. Return guys don't get much action anymore. Hard to stack those yards up these days. The 40-yard-dash is a great measure of straight line speed.
