Here are a few recruiting tidbits that I wanted to pass along. It's not meant to be an exhaustive list and I do not guarantee the accuracy of the information. I'm merely passing along information that others have reported.
John Fulton plans to announce a top five, possibly as early as this week. Although most believe Florida and Alabama lead for his services or, if he decides to stay in state, South Carolina and Clemson could be in the running.
Corey Brown says that Forida has been recruiting him the hardest. While he didn't name a leader, it's evident that the Gators are at or very near the top of his list.
David Yankey. Told ($)Scout.com that Duke and Florida are his leaders followed closely by South Carolina and then Stanford. Tennessee has offered but there doesn't appear to be much interest on his part at this time.
Dominiqe Easley, a member of the Rivals 150, was recently invited to play in the UA All-American game on Jan 10 in Orlando. Easley has a total of 13 D-1 offers, inlcluding one from Tennessee, but he likely won't make a final decision until sometime this fall.
There appears to be some controversy surrounding Gabe King. From what I can gather, King may have been ineligible for the 2008 football season. He played at Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina and the issue appears to involve his residence. The family lived in Winston-Salem during the football season but, according to the family, King lived with his sister during the fall and with an assistant coach during the summer. However, sources withing the Page football program are saying that isn't the case. It should be interesting to see what becomes of this. King transferred to Northern Guilford sometime last week.
Earlier this week, Michigan extended an offer to cornerback Jonathan Mincy. Mincy has been offered by SEC schools Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Vandy along with Georgia Tech and Maryland. Mincy said Michigan also offerred defensive end T.J. Stripling.
James Stone told ($)Scout.com that Tennessee definitely ranks at the top of his list. He appears impressed by the "dynamic" coaching staff in Knoxville. Staying close to home will be a factor in Stone's final decision.
Nick Saban is ready to battle for Memphis according to al.com. The article references current Bama commit Keiwon Malone, a four-star prospect from Memphis' Mitchell High School, and prospects Justin Maclin and O.C. Brown, who both have Alabama on their lists.
Dexter Morant, a defensive end from Manning High, has listed Florida, Georgia, and Alabama as his current leaders. Tennessee is one of eight offers, but doesn't appear to be on the radar at this point. Morant attended junior days at Georgia and Alabama. He plans to make a decision within the next 120 days.
Darious Cummings is still commited to FSU and has been since last summer but he will take his official visits before making a final decision. Tennessee is among several that have offered including USC, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, and Ohio State.
DeJoshua Johnson now has close to 30 offers, but is eliminating schools that run the spread offense. Johnson prefers a pro-style offense because he feels it gives him the best opportunity for a future in the NFL. FSU, Bama, and Oklahoma State appear to be his favorites. While there is no mention of Tennessee, it's always fun to point out whenever a prospect eliminates Florida.
Former Tennessee coach and now current Clemson defensive line coach Dan Brooks made a visit to see Ethan Famer this week according to ($)Scout.com. Tennessee has offered, but at this point Farmer puts Clemson and N.C. State at the top of his list. The Vols are not in his top five but it is worth noting that Tennessee was the ($)first of his four offers.
Josh Shirley has ($)yet to name a leader at this point but the Vols are included in the five schools that he favors: UCLA, Tennessee, USC, Arizona, and Washington. Note that the Vols, who just recently offered Shirley, are the only school on that list outside the PAC 10. He said of the Volunteers. “They are going to be coming up too. They’ve been recruiting really well already and have great coaches who know how to win.”
Springville, Alabama wide receiver Jeremy Richardson ($)visited Auburn this past weekend. Most believe that Auburn is the leader for Richardson at this point. Although his top 5 schools are all in the SEC, Tennessee does not appear on that list.
Tennessee's chances for quarterback Jake Heaps are ($)just as good as a the other four schools that sit atop his list according to Mat Taylor, Heaps' high school coach. Heaps was also very impressed that Vols' quarterback coach David Reeves was one of the first coaches there to visit him on Monday.
According to Rivals, ($)Lance Thompson visited with Atlanta defensive end Garrison Smith on Tuesday.
It appears that Timothy Graham will end his recruitment soon and commit to Mississippi State. He's just waiting on them to visit him at practice or when he visits them.
Torrian Wilson ($)got a new offer from South Carolina. He names Tennessee among his schools of interest along with Michigan, Stanford, UCLA, and Miami.
