Oh there is a difference. And it's stellar. I'm basing my opinion on the 4K UHD BD's that I watch. Keep in mind that 4k done right isn't just all about the added pixels. It's also about the wider color gamut and the HDR. I understand that 4k broadcast and cable is some time off, but it encourages me to see that Direct is actively pursuing it. Others will follow.

FWIW, I've noticed a big difference in the displays they show at Best Buy...

Also, fwiw, I recall a time when 3d sports and broadcasts were coming to Directv as well...

4K is amazing. I don't own one but I've seen the difference and it's amazing. On a side note, I have to say I've had direct for the last 2-3 years and I have absolutely no complaints. Their customer service is great IMO

As far as the displays tvs at Best Buy, if you can't see the difference between 4K and normal HD, than you seriously need to get your eyes checked.

As someone who used to work at Best Buy, they didn't have quality signals going to the HD tv's so they never looked as good as they should. I'm guessing they finally upgraded their wiring setup so they would look better with the 4K because otherwise the 4K would really show the defects in the signal.

It's been scientifically proven that the human cannot see the difference between an HD tv and 4K.

Its like the people out there who still say "I can't see a difference between Blu-ray & DVD"!:banghead2:

My wife can't tell the difference in SD and HD channels. She will DVR stuff for us. She'll turn it on and I'm like WTF

Tosh has a great bit about this sort of thing.

"At least you still get to watch it."
"Yeah, because I pay extra every month to still watch TV like poor people."

I think women just don't care. My wife can tell the difference but would be perfectly content with an old 13" Tube TV.

I would be perfectly fine with high bitrate 1080p streams/broadcasts of sporting events. It's quite likely that these 4K broadcasts will be so heavily compressed that they might as well be 1080p.

In fact, I would take compressed 1080p @ 60 FPS over 4K 24 FPS any day if I had to pick.

The UT Football YouTube account uploads highlights of certain games @ 1080p/60 FPS and it looks great and is ideal for sports (albeit still very compressed).

They can come up with 4K sports programming but can't be bothered to come up with decent internet access plans.

If you are watching anything less than 65", then yes, the difference between 4K and HD is minimal. However, we have a 75" 4K Samsung in my bonus room (building man cave) and the differences are huge imo

You can absolutely see a difference.

The whole chicken before the egg thing with these to technologies is a prime example of why competition in a market is a very good thing for consumers.

Electronics hardware is super competitive; as such, something innovative and awesome hits the market pretty much every year.

Then we have TV cable/ISP providers.... an oligopoly of a few behemoths with garbage customer service and a terrible track record of innovation.
