$5 Trillion Tax Hike Coming?

Thank God. I hate paying taxes, but it's become clear that Congress is never going to produce enough budget cuts to put a dent in the deficit.

I would pay European levels of taxes if it meant my country would not go bankrupt with the idiots in office incapable of agreeing on any counter-measures.

you honestly think increased tax revenue will be used to pay down the debt?

and that's why we're in this mess. The gov't has plenty of money and things like this are power/money grabs to keep them in power. This will be used to fund even more pet projects (like Obamacare where the bill continues to compound weekly) and very little will go where it needs to. Do you think we'll get a $5tril tax cut once the debt is magically paid off?

The debt won't be magically paid off in my lifetime, so I don't care to think about that. All I know is pretty soon, Congress will have to go down to Check in to Cash and take out some title loans against the deed to the country.

so if it won't be paid off then why allow them to steal $5tril more from your fellow citizens under an empty promise?

Congress and the Pres have another option- tighten their belts and rein in spending. Of course this will not be done with the current "leaders" in DC so there's only one way to change it.

The govt can operate on the money they are taking in now. Cut the spending and then get them a copy of "The total money makeover" as an Xmas present

1) We've already done about as many Pay Day Loans with China that we can stand...

2) This is just the Federal level, the State and Local Taxes are going to go up even higher. We just had back to back years of 11% increases in our city tax and the school district is submitting a request to the state for a 17% increase. The combination of state, local and school taxes are supposed to go up at least $1000 per household in Pennsylvania over the next 3 years based on projections.

The reason for the local increases is the state cut the education funding in half and the welfare programs by 25% so the locals have to pick up the slack and those pensions aren't going to fund themselves...

This is going to get way worse before there is any sort of relief.

Wanna fix things? How about we, the American voters, stop electing crooks? Odds are, if they belong to one of the two major parties, they are owned by a special interest group and are nothing but a puppet who is more than willing to take, take, take from John Q. Voter to satisfy their SIG to get re-elected.

The biggest problem with American politics is that the average American is uneducated in the way the political game is being played and honestly believe that one cut here, one change there will fix things. The system is broken, and as long as we keep electing more of the same we will continue to be raped and pillaged and given less and less in return.

Einstein said this:
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

I believe this to be plenty applicable to the state of our inflated government made up of professional politicians owned by the rich and wrong.

Yep. Unfortunately, one has to show they can bring the bacon home to the party to get elected to nearly any public office in the first place.

The worst thing you can do for an addict (of any kind) is to continue to enable them.

I would rather the U.S government to go broke before we hand over an additional $5 trillion without having sustainable, comprehensive, and permanent spending cuts.

Obama has diverted $500 M from medicare to the IRS.

And that's just to audit the tax returns of his cabinet members.

Page 24,769 of the Obamacare bill plainly states; "We
must tax the American citizent to death in order to
save his life."

No big deal. The taxes on the profits of the alternative energy companies will easily cover this.

Not defending Obama, just pointing out the alternative. But you could make the same picture for Reagan and W, who both increased it 100%.

Believing the increased taxes will be used to do anything responsible is ludicrous. This will basically be a new credit account they can run into the ground with debt.

Obama said he was raising the tax rate on those making 1 milion a year to 30%.
Legislation to enact the "Buffett Rule" calls for Americans who make one million dollars per year or more to pay at least 30% of their income in taxes. The measure, crafted by Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, is virtually sure to fail when it comes to a vote in the Senate on April 16.

The proposal would raise an estimated $47 billion over ten years, a drop in the bucket of government spending but enough, Obama said, to spend money on student loans, scientific research, or infrastructure that could bolster the economy.
