Could be more, could be less

10.8 Million - Dooley and assistants buyout
1.5 Million - Jones buyout from Cincinnati
18.2 Million - Jones salary for six years
20.5 million - assistant coaching staff for six years (could be more, could be less)

I am glad to see us investing substantial money into the future of the program. It takes money to win in our league.

So we pay this much do we.... gee, could have gotten a name coach

A big deal is assistant coaches pay. We might have to spend 4 million or more per year to get the kind of assistant coaches we need. I hope they open the vault and pay whatever is necessary to have a strong staff.

Get the money from somewhere. Alabama paid their assistants 4,130,000 this season and they are getting raises, to boot. We gotta keep up.

I was glad to hear that all of Jones assistants he is bringing from Cincinnati are getting fat raises, but they still will lag behind a lot of other staffs in total salaries.

Alabama's assistants are earning it. Should we just pay them equally just to keep up? Or should they earn it?

He's bringing a ton of staff from Cincy and giving them nice raises :)

And to think we could have had Gruden and his all-star staff for 11 million per year. And the money was already in escrow. What a deal!!! Thank you Chancy Booger Eater and AD Bama'r Lover.

shouldn't Jones be paying his own buy out ?

It's an incentive we paid to get him here.

Another good move in the contract is the buyout if Jones is let go before season 4 is only 3 million - a lot less than the 5+ million we are paying to get rid of Dooley.

Alabama spends more than this and they aren't paying any buyouts. That should put some perspective on it.

Im pretty sure if he gets another college job by rule we don't have to pay the rest of his buyout, could be wrong though.

No, his buyout was guaranteed. You are correct on the assistant coaches, their buyout will be offset by whatever they make in their new jobs.

Hmmm... $11M for 6 years = $66M (not including raises). Add to that the $10.8M for staff buyouts and we get $76.8M. Instead, we are paying $51M (much of which is likely to have been funded by boosters in escrow), for a savings of at least $25.8M. I can live with that.

Jones' buyout was 1.4

That being said.............................thank you Mike Hamilton for hiring Derek Dooley. We just wasted 3 years and several millions of dollars.
