6 Thoughts Post Auburn (common sense) ~Careful I'm Optimistic~

1.) We still have a legitimate shot at a Bowl. Vanderbilt won over a beat up Florida team. Definitely, a winnable game

Give it a rest on this bowl BS. I know all the arguments about all the extra practice time, but who wants to see this not quite mediocre team get embarrassed yet again by an equally weak ACC team in the Cleveland Toilet Bowl. BTW - Vandy will give this squad another ass kicking.

Good point.

Too many players have a loser mentality, are too slow, and don't have anyone challenging them for their jobs.

The worst offenders are our OL. Several would have been benched on any team because of the false starts but there is no one evidently capable of taking over their jobs,

Right now it seems that all of them are just going out their and going through the motions at times.

Vandy is a winnable game, but right now they'd be favored and may be favored in that game.. Should be, they're playing better ball..

Fail. Just proof of the confusing mindset of some of you "sky is falling" guys, since we got trounced by a top ten team we will automatically lose all other games. And any bowl game, no matter which one it is gives this team precious weeks of practice that they don't get otherwise and in case you didn't know, we have a bunch of freshmen playing that need all of the practice we can give them.

I have said this before, but there are 3 things I was hoping for coming into this year considering our talent, depth and schedule:

Signature win..... Check
Great class.... Check with top 10 likely
And the big one: a bowl game....... Still within reach

I can only speak for myself but despite all of the beat downs that are PAINFUL to watch, so far so good for team 117 and staff.

I had one more: Play hard nosed, inspired football throughout. That's where this team has faltered the past three weeks. I get it, it's a tough schedule. We don't have depth. But this team doesn't have the heart and emotion from the UGA and USCe games anymore.

Actually, your "big one" wasn't even a given in my eyes, I knew wins would be tough. I just wanted to see heart, and I've not seen much of it lately. It's disappointing and I pin the blame for getting the players fired up on the coaches.

you serious Clark?

He's very serious. Those of you that think Dobbs is our future, please explain why you think this already. He has shown nothing other than being a little faster on his feet than Worley. Dobbs long ball is atrocious and Worley's short game is much more accurate. Not saying Worley is anything special but Dobbs has to show A LOT more IMHO.

Worley completed roughly 55% of his throws this season. Dobbs has completed roughly 63-64%. I don't have the breakdowns of completions in front of me, but he's been more accurate. One of the biggest complaints about Worley was his inaccuracy on 5 yd outs.

That "beat up Florida team" is still probably much better than this Tennessee team, which is also quite beat up after the recent schedule.

Don't think so. Florida is no where near as fast as Mizzu,Oregon, or Auburn. Mizzu and Oregon have defenses that could stop Florida with its current offense.

I am not denying that Worley is a more polished QB than Dobbs.

Junior
AP...Yards 104... QBR 98
WKU...Yards 142...QBR 40.8
Oregon...Yards 126...QBR 48.8
Florida...Yards 139...QBR 32.5
South Alabama...Yards 204...QBR 45
Georgia...Yards 215...QBR 49.1
South Carolina...Yards 179...QBR 52.8
Alabama...Yards 120...QBR 8.3

Freshman
Alabama...Yards 75...QBR 51.1
Missouri...Yards 240...QBR 18.7
Auburn...Yards 128...QBR 39

Worley played 3 teams that are currently top 25
Oregon
South Carolina
Alabama
The averages of those three games are
Yards 141...QBR 36.6

Dobbs played 3 top 10 teams
Alabama
Missouri
Auburn
The averages of those three games are
Yards 147...QBR 36.3

The fact that a Freshman QB is that close to him is showing how much more potential Dobbs has over Worley. The ceiling is much higher for Dobbs, but the floor is also lower.

Dobbs has also helped to open up the running game IMO. He has kept the ball several times, and that is helping to make holes bigger for Lane and Neal.

To me, since their passing stats are very similar, but Dobbs is opening up the running game a bit more I am seeing more offense with Dobbs.

Good insights. Still need to see more of Dobbs before iam sold as being the future but the raw talent is there. We know he's got a good head too....

I'm eager to see Dobbs after winter workouts. Put 15 lbs on him, speed him up by a step, and add a little more zip to his arm and you have a weapon that can take control of games.
