I still say getting a pic of TE would be like getting one of Bigfoot.

yeah, i have some.

-without knowing anything about your camera, be sure you have the correct shutter speed. if there is a setting for a sports/action shot, use that setting. it allows your shutter to click off pictures quickly and simultaneously. i do this for my pictures because i can select the best one from 10 pictures. i wish i had some of those i could show you.

-the best time to take pictures of cars is under caution. they're not moving as fast so you can get shots of the car. if the car is moving, you want to follow it with the camera. this will give a clear image of the car but it will blur the background.

by no means do i claim to be even an amateur photographer but i get some good shots with those two tips right there. your best bet is to get a big memory card and just play around with the settings. sometimes i'll use a completely different setting for track panorama shot than for an up close car shot. take lots of pictures and find what looks the best.

best part about a digital camera is you can erase the picture right on the spot if it's bad.

Best of all good advice given Doozer, volume makes up for waiting for a good shot. Some of my best pics were purely serendipity ones, usually not even known when taken.

doozer's tips are spot on, especially about following the car. However, especially since it's a new camera. Practice with it quite a bit over the next couple of days, especially with moving objects. Otherwise your first hour or so is going to be a complete waste.

i would also add don't be afraid to zoom in. Way too many people make the mistake of thinking they are too close when they aren't even remotely close enough. If you're taking a picture of say Stewart's car sitting on pit road, no one really wants to see the bystander 20 feet behind the car picking his noise.

If its the new SLR Canon it has a quick enough shutter speed. If your getting your shots from the front row get up close to the fence. Get your girl to distract security because they don't like you being close. Also if you are not on the front row hope you might be in the Upper deck with a nice 100mm lens zoom. The chicken wire sucks at Daytona if you are shooting through it get close . Here are two examples. One is close to the fence and one is further back. Have Fun, Daytona is always a blast. Another thing if you are real close to the track, if the cars are not under caution or pitting, then you have to have some good timing shooting them coming by at 200+ mph or have a camera that has a burst feature that will take a few pics a second. I also recommend if it has video on it get real close to the fence when opportunity presents itself and tape when the field goes by, It is loud, get your earplugs and watchout your hat my blow off your head.
