Nick King- probably the biggest news since the last update involves this man, Nick King. A consensus top 25 player, and 5* prospect, King was long thought a Memphis lock. Just a few months back King released a top 6, it didn't even list Tennessee. Last month King released a top 4, and now Tennessee is firmly on that list thanks to tireless hours from Coach Martin. Many(including myself) still though Memphis lock, and that it wasn't huge we were listed. However, King shocked the recruiting nation by making a surprise unofficial visit to Knoxville this weekend. Word is the visit went great, and King will be making a return visit to Knoxville sometime in the fall, this one will be official. Tennessee still trails Memphis, but when you look at the ground Martin has made up in just a couple months, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Martin could snatch King right out from under Memphis' nose.
Robert Hubbs- a few official updates in the last week, but not too much of anything that we didn't already have an idea on, still it's good to hear it coming from Hubbs now. When asked this week Hubbs listed 2 schools that would be getting official visits, Tennessee was one of them. In a report today by a Duke site, they are saying Tennessee is the early favorite, this after they interviewed Hubbs just last night.
Austin Nichols- not too much new here, only thing worth note is he will be taking an unofficial to Memphis tomorrow. Sounds like this is more a courtesy/respect visit, but it is worth noting. Florida received another post committment today so you can officially scratch them off Nichols list. It appears it's a 2 team race, duke & Tennessee, although some think Mizzou and Auburn could still come into play.
Markel Crawford- news was confirmed earlier this week that markel did indeed suffer a torn ACL. It is likely some teams will cool on him now and take a wait and see approach. Florida was the leader with Tennessee second, but their was some thought Florida would pass on him because they're in on some higher rated guys. Now with his injury I would feel confident in saying Florida will almost definitely take themselves out of the recruitment now for a bit. This could open up a window for Tennessee to make their move and become the favorite, will be interesting to see if CCM pulls the trigger.
Jonathon Williams lll- as has been the norm with Jw3 recruitment, it remains quiete. The only new news comes from the reliable Galille. He reported this week that Tennessee is in very good shape with Jw3, and sounds as if they appear to be the leader. It doesn't appear UK will offer so this isn't a concern any longer, biggest hurdle could be Georgetown, they still appear to be very much in play and going after Jw3 hard.
Terrence Samuel- this is a new guy to turn up, but it appears the smoke is becoming thicker with Samuel and Tennessee. Lewis confirmed this week the staff has been very active on samuel recently, and many scouts were reporting tennessee staff being present at multiple events in which samuel played. Not sure if this says anything about how the staff feels about Newkirk, or if it is just a backup to Newkirk. In any regard, very good PG, and it appears Landrys days are most likely numbered as a Tennessee volunteer committ.
