The one time a Group of 5 school does the thing necessary to get them any actual degree of playoff semifinal consideration - creating an out of conference schedule years in advance that happened to fall such that the two Power 5 schools they played both turned out to be ranked going into the season - and then Indiana goes and gets so blown out by Iowa in week 1 that it completely drops out of the rankings and pretty much makes the whole thing kaput.
Still, a win over a (presumably) Big 10 team - if combined with a win next week against a Notre Dame that's victorious over Purdue - would pretty much clinch Cincinnati as the de facto Group of 5 participant in one of the New Years 6 bowl games - likely the Fiesta Bowl given the rotation of Group of 5 at-large bids that the Cotton-Peach-Fiesta bowls share.
The two have actually met 14 times before now, with IU leading the series 9-3-2. The last time the two met was in 2000: a 42-6 Indiana victory.
