I was watching a youtube video about him last night. He'll always be remembered in the Nascar community

I remember when that happened even though it was before I became a serious NASCAR fan. It happened at NHIS,where Adam Petty was killed nearly two months earlier and in the same turn if I remember correctly. In a span of nine months,we lost Adam Petty,Kenny Irwin Jr,and Dale Earnhardt.

If I remember correctly, they hit the wall within less than 100 ft of each other.

It's nice that this thread was started to remember those guys. They get overshadowed by Dale Sr., which is understandable because he was the best but it's hard to hear about a guy losing his life on the race track. I would have given anything to see Adam Petty's career in Sprint Cup.

From stories I've read about both incidents thank GOD they weren't in an actual race anyway with how horrible they truly were. I remember logging into Jayski just like it was yesterday to see practice speeds. The first thing I saw was a picture of Kenny Irwin Jr and thought oh God no not again. Then I saw the In Memory of and ran outside to tell my dad. He was mowing the yard on his riding mower. I told him and he thought I was telling him some kind of sick joke - when he found out I wasn't he just stopped mowing right there and came in the house - he said he was just too sick to finish after hearing that.

You know DND, we all know that danger is part of auto racing, and fatalities are going to happen. Yet when they do, we are still shocked, saddened and dismayed. That is how we should be. If we ever just said, "oh well, that's just racing", we would have lost our humanity.
