This is like taking the complexity of a probe launch to Mars and trying to compare it, boiled down, to walking to the corner store to buy milk.

"Let's just knock some zeros off" and pretend it translates.

LOL, incredibly lame.

Of course it's a complicated situation, but this comparison is a pretty straightforward way of conveying how reckless the Federal government has become.

You are right, it should be simplified by saying the US Debt is 15.27 to the 10th power

I know it is. Everyone knows it is.

But this grade school math approach to describing our problems does a disservice to the issues presented.

Actually, this is just a way to visualize the problem. The numbers aren't real to most people. This is a way to make it real.

It doesn't change the complexity at all. Scientists do this all the time. That is why we use scientific notation. The mind can't comprehend all of those zeroes.

This isn't trying to oversimplify any explanation about how we got in this shape. It isn't trying to oversimplify any explanation about how can get out of this shape. The complexity resides in the whys and hows, not in the actually amounts. Would it be more complex if we talked about it in cents rather than dollars? Of course not. All the numbers would be 100 times bigger, but it would still represent the same situation.

Does the calculus of nuclear war become less complex if we talk about a 100 kiloton warhead than if we talk about a 200000000 lb warhead? No, it just makes the math easier to visualize.

If you don't like the topic or think it is unimportant, then fine. That doesn't mean you should denigrate an attempt to conceptualize in a perfectly valid way used by scientists and economists the world over. That smells like an inability to rationally discuss the problem.

To quote this guy on the web:
LOL, incredibly lame.

If I spend more than I make, Im in debt to someone.

If the government spends more than it takes in, its in debt to someone.

Whats left to describe?

What are you talking about? This is a horrible comparison. A budget is a budget, and it's simple math no matter the size. Any one of us can go to the corner store just like any competent person can balance a budget (no matter how many zeros). Nobody can/has traveled to Mars.

I think you left out the part about evil rich people and how their meal of choice is deep fried newborn puppies.

I don't understand. It's simply showing the ratios and does it very simply. If you're debating that the relationships between spending and income are somehow not conveyed here, then you're a moron.

I prefer my deep fried newborn puppies seasoned with the tears of orphans and poor people.

If you're going to have deep fried newborn puppy, you have to serve it with a side of dipping sauce made from the sweat and toil of the working class.

Nothing eats eating off the backs of the proletariat class. Literally, they get on all fours and I set my plate, silverware, and chalis on their backs.
