I know that the rankings (especially this time of the year) are very fluid; but, here is where the new SEC coaches currently stand in the recruiting rankings:

Rivals:
Brett Bielema (Arkansas): 40th
Gus Malzahn (Auburn): 17th
Mark Stoops (Kentucky): 4th
Butch Jones (Tennessee): 2nd

Scout:
Brett Bielema (Arkansas): 54th
Gus Malzahn (Auburn): 17th
Mark Stoops (Kentucky): 10th
Butch Jones (Tennessee): 6th

247 Sports:
Brett Bielema (Arkansas): 53rd
Gus Malzahn (Auburn): 17th
Mark Stoops (Kentucky): 5th
Butch Jones (Tennessee): 4th

Any surprises? Disappointments? Was this what you expected?

Same here as well at Butch Jones. I just don't know how well Bielema is going to be able to recruit in the south.

Stoops is recruiting Ohio very well. Hope Bob doesn't get any ideas.

Kentucky recruiting so well is the biggest surprise to me.

2014 is obviously booming, hopfully 2015 shapes up nicely as well. We aren't contending for conference titles by 2015, but if this is recruiting is sustainable it's a decent possibility that this team can post some winning conference records and build something good. At least make noise in the east. Once the players are here it is up to the coaching staff, and if the air raid offense is sustainable in the SEC.

I thought Bielema was a home run hire for Arkansas, bet he wishes he stayed at Wisconsin.

Also, when are the Kentucky recruits going to realize they are an afterthought at a basketball school.

I remember being ridiculed for saying that Stoops was a very good hire, and I remember people saying he was the worst of the three brothers. Guess we'll see...

The worst Stoops is the one that got canned from Arizona. Mike, I believe.

I think you're painting with a wide brush with that statement. During brooks tenure and they were ranked and in bowl games, Kentucky sold out bowl games and basketball games twice when they occurred on the same day. Yes it is a hoops school but the support is there when the product isn't losing to Vandy by 40. Which you can now relate to.

He has built an SEC caliber staff and he is a great defensive mind which is a necessity in this conference. I think he is going to do great. Barnhart realized that this staff won't be here long if he doesn't give them what they need so in the athletics budget for next year he has already increased football coaching salaries by close to 3 million dollars. It may take a couple years to see any fruits from their labor but the emphasis UK is putting on football is undeniable. They are getting ready to begin a 110 million dollar renovation of Commonwealth too. And as far as the comparisons between the stoops family is concerned, Mark is recruiting light years ahead of Bob.

Bielema is practicing the Dooley method

And was noted for it when he resided in Wisconsin. Petrino was really the perfect coach for arky, He couldn't recruit either but he could run a pass happy scheme. They had better start making inroads into texas like the old southwest days or Bielema will get a taste of life in the SEC as a perennial bottom feeder.

A&M coming into the league may have hurt them the worst.

If vandy can do it to us a quarter as many times as we have them, then we can "relate" to being as amazing as the university of kentucky in football.

Pump the brakes a bit.

Why? According to most on VN based on butches recruiting, UT has already repeated as 2014 and 2015 champs. I hardly think "making noise in the east constitutes" hyperbole.

I'm pretty sure no one on Volnation has predicted us to be the National Champions next year. We said that if Butch Jones continues to have top recruiting classes every year, we'll start having winning seasons again like we used too. I mean we're used to winning in football and we're glad Butch Jones is giving us something to be excited about. Same situation with UK and Mark Stoops except Kentucky doesn't win in football. (No offense)

Every program starts somewhere. Programs rise and fall all the time.

To me this shows the power of the SEC brand (and as a side note also an example of how the entire conference benefits when the SEC wins titles) 2 schools UK/UT who neither one had a winning record last couple years, both fired their coaches have a class in 2014 ranked top 3...I know it's fluid and will change but to me that shows why being in the SEC is important.
