Portal = Free Agency.

We all knew what was coming just like with professional sports. Haven't scratched the surface yet. in 3 years it will be much worse. Kids are not as patient as professionals.

Nor paid as well.
Worse unless the powers that be figure out a way to dampen the situation.

I tend to agree, My guess is that that most teams will have dozen or so players stick around for the duration due to NIL money but the rest of the roster will be fluid. Every year will be like “opening a box of chocolates” and ours will have nuts in them. :eek:

@BigOrangeTrain

Another proof against your faith. These are the 4/5* QB's from that class. To say that their success has been "spotty" is being kind. Nix seems to have found some success after floundering at Auburn.

Mertz has been an average QB on an average or worse team.

Hilinski was average to bad QB who landed at Northwestern after being beaten out at USCe.

Howell was very good.

Some of the others transferred down. Others were beaten out.

You could possibly claim that it was a weak QB class. It appears to be. The problem with YOU making that claim... is if the recruiting sites were as accurate as you think then Howell would have been a 5*, there might have been a couple of 4*, but most of those guys would have had 3* ratings or worse.

Everyone needs to remember that the players only get ONE transfer without sitting out. Or possibly 2 if you are a grad transfer. I think it will all level out pretty soon when players and parents start realizing that they may get "stuck" without a scholly. If it was MY kid... he/she had better be damn sure they had a real offer!

the SEC attrition rate a dozen years ago was 35% over time. The data I have covered from 2002 recruiting classes forward to now. The attrition rate now, for classes 2002-2022 is 47%. The trend has increased the last 10-12 years on recruits staying or leaving.. for lots of reasons I should say.

The attrition I count includes transfers, players dismissed, players giving up football, players getting put on medical or any other reason that they do not complete eligibility at the school they signed with. I do not count them for leaving early to go to the NFL.

there have been a ton of kids that have transferred a second time in the last few years since portal implemented. I understand that there is an appeal process to apply for immediate eligibility. To my knowledge, I'm not aware of any player having to sit out when transferring a 2nd time. It sure may have happened but I haven't seen. I would imagine if a player took the NCAA to court on that issue, the player would win. JMO

That may be, but the written rule is that they get one "Free" immediate eligibility transfer. After that, they have to sit out a year like they normally would unless they are a qualifying graduate transfer.

Here is the statement from the NCAA site.

College athletes in all sports will continue to be immediately eligible the first time they transfer, provided they notify their schools in writing during designated notification-of-transfer windows (as determined by their sport.)
The board adopted the following notification-of-transfer windows:
  • Fall sports: a 45-day window beginning the day after championships selections are made in their sport, or May 1-15.
    • Reasonable accommodations will be made for participants in the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision championship games.
  • Winter sports: a 60-day window beginning the day after championships selections are made in the sport.
  • Spring sports: Dec. 1-15, or a 45-day window beginning the day after selections are made in the sport. The legislation also establishes exceptions to the new windows for student-athletes who experience head coach changes or have athletics aid reduced, canceled or not renewed.
The board also adopted new, more specific standards for immediate eligibility waivers for student-athletes who do not otherwise meet the one-time transfer exception, focusing on student-athlete well-being or circumstances outside the student-athlete's control.
The board opted not to enact a new exception to the transfer rules that would allow student-athletes to transfer multiple times and be immediately eligible if they meet progress-toward-degree requirements at their new school. However, the board remains committed to continuing to study the impact of the new transfer rules in both the short and long term.
"Like their peers in the general student population, college athletes choose to transfer for any number of reasons," Morehead said. "We believe the changes enacted today enable member schools to adapt to students' needs, while also positioning students for long-term academic success. These changes to NCAA rules recognize further study is needed on graduation rates before we consider authorizing multiple transfer opportunities with immediate eligibility. We will continue to review potential modifications to transfer rules as the landscape evolves over time."

Should reinstate the playing rules. If you transfer, you must wait 1 year, regardless of situation. And a year of eligibility is burned as well.

understand.. just saying, I see a lot of players with 2 or more years left transferring for the second and in some cases third times. Maybe all are graduates but I doubt it. I just think the NCAA has the rule but doesn't in force it very well. I could be wrong.

If this was the case, Bru doesn’t play this year.

If Bru doesn’t play this year, nobody makes that catch in traffic with 2 seconds left vs Bama. No cigars, no Dixieland delight, same goalposts and the streak continues.

To hell with that stupid rule.

Maybe ramel keyton would’ve made it. Also makes players be smarter about where they are signing. You can point to one time it worked for us and for the kid, but many many times it doesn’t and won’t.

Yeah... they are probably just throwing waivers out like candy. They certainly dont seem very interested enforcing rules now a days.

4 out 30 signed and stayed thier career at the same school. 13% chance, w this data, that a top 30 QB does NOT transfer. 87% chance he does.
