OK so I read the thread Lexvol put up( http://www.volnation.com/forum/around-ncaa/115505-fbi-lowder-dye-etc-unbelievable-summary.html) and it looks like Auburn is as good as dead. As I read through the thread I got to thinking, Auburn athletics could get the hammer brought down upon it to which only SMU has seen, the death penalty. So here is the hypothetical:

If Auburn gets the death penalty, or something close , do you think that the SEC would drop Auburn from the conference? After all, this is a major embarrassment to the SEC. Then in turn, set in motion the second part what we saw a few months ago, new additions and subtractions to different conferences? Could we see Texas A&M in the SEC (it could be anyone, but just use A&M for the example) and TCU go to the big 12 (or whatever it is)?

I don't think it's that far fetched. We could potentially see the schools looking in, TCU, Boise St., and possibly Utah, in the "majors". This would save the BCS as well as satisfy a majority of fans.

Just a thought.

They almost lost their accreditation under Dye. If what I've read is true, they definitely could get kicked out.

If Auburn looses the SACS accreditation, then Auburn getting kicked out of the SEC is at least within the realm of possibility.

I think you are probably right about #1, mainly because I agree with #2. If its all true, I think anything is on the table.

The 20% of the post that I think is true is it is very possible that the FBI was investigating some of the Trustee guys related to the bank collapse. In which case, its possible that some of the Newton stuff, or at least conversations about the Netwon stuff, was caught on tape.

The commonality of the Boards and general good old boy network similarities with the way the Butcher brothers did business in East Tennessee make it hard for me to believe the FBI wasn't at least investigating a 3 billion dollar bank that collapsed after accepting TARP money. Something stinks here, and the FBI likes to turn on their tape recorders when big money stinks.

I feel certain Auburn can bring out dirt on everyone in the SEC so doubt the SEC would be interested in running them. its called negotiations.

Why? I am asking about the overall effect the Cam Newton situation could have, I'm not talking about the situation itself.

Because everything in this thread is already being talked about in 2 or 3 other threads.

I think its automatic that Auburn gets kicked out if they lose SACS accreditation based on SEC charter.

But they aren't going to lose accreditation no matter what happened with the guys on the board. SACS is not going to strip accreditation from a school with that many alumni and that active enrollment at a Public University. Alabama has a govenor, two Senators, a pack of congressmen, a state legislature, and bunch of alumni lawyers and alumni judges that would prevent that.

Accreditation loss is a risk for small schools, not big publics.

It would take Death Penalty and Trustee arrests for being kicked out of the SEC to be on the table, and even then it only becomes a remote possibility, and they would still be accredited.

I am taking everything I come across on the internet with a grain of salt, but the read on the bank collapse, dog track/casino, and recruiting was a good read. If nothing else, it has movie script written all over it.

If any of that turns out to be true and they did lose their accredidation, I think the SEC would have to drop them. The thing about them coming close to losing their accredidation before is true. I have talked to someone who was a student at the time and said it was a big issue and it wasn't until after several evaluations that they got to keep it.

The extra evaluations were a dog and pony show on everyone's part in that instance.

The SACS doesn't want to deal with the headache of a school that big losing accrediation anymore than Auburn wants to lose it.

The "several evaluations" was a slap on the wrist from the SACS to save face during a scandal without out having to go through the trouble of addressing the problem.

IIRC the SACS stuff was more about Auburn not sucking up to SACS. SACS is a PITA - we are also SACS accredited at UAB and they are very strict and require ridiculous amounts of documentation for what they are attempting to accredit.

My memory is that the Auburn board was seen as having too much involvement in academics (SACS is academic accreditation) and the board was stubborn about it. SACS got their point across by withholding full re-accreditation.

If Bobby Lowder, Pat Dye and Bo Jackson gang banged the SACS chairs wife on national television Auburn still wouldn't lose their accreditation.

For reasons that have already been posted, I find it highly unlikely that auburn gets kicked out of the sec.

Their athletics might be in some real trouble though.

Auburn is bringing so much heat on the SEC it really pisses me off. The whole conference is going to be under intense observation after this by the NCAA. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I just feel that recruiting for schools in the SEC just became that much more harder as well as other conferences using this situation to pull kids away. We'll see...

I doubt Auburn gets kicked out of the SEC. These allegations may or may not be true, but they're gaining steam so quickly that they're hard to ignore. I have a feeling Auburn is going up the river for this.

all in all, i'd be just happy to see the Boogs end up finishing behind Vandy (overall) in football for the next 20 years.

those guys are gonna get taken down, my friends... taken down all the way to chinatown....

Isn't Utah going in the Pac10 starting next year? I know they weren't what your post is about but just thought I'd point that out. :good!:
