I'll post this in this forum because of how crazy some threads move around and I was on the Gruden train. Everyone wants to know what happened with Gruden and it likely will never fully come out. I will say without giving away my actual sources (for legal reasons) that my source came through boosters. I've got a great friend that handles the large business relationships for many big players in Middle/East Tennessee. That's all I can say. It would be a violation of privacy if I went any further than that.

My friend and ex colleague who I've been in the trenches with for years and who I trust 100% told me back in September that Gruden was on the table. I had weekly conversations with this friend and in October I realized that it was more than just a real possibility and that we had Jon Gruden on a silver platter.

I know as of Tuesday that Gruden was "the guy." It was absolutely happening. I had been playing up Gruden on my personal Facebook page to some friends and have been saying it's happening since late October. My guy is solid and definitely in contact with at least two major players. He was even hearing from others in the circle down there that it was definitely happening.

I was so sure from my source that had DIRECT contact with some of these players that I put it out here that if Jon Gruden was not the next coach at the University of Tennesse I would retire as a poster on the VolNation - been here since 2004.

I'm sure there's plenty of questions and I won't say anymore than I have above. Out of respect and privacy I will not say anything further. I don't give a rip whether you believe me or not but UT having Gruden as late as Tuesday is 100% truth. I know many people will relish in the fact that many of the Gruden supporters were wrong and I'll eat my crow like a big boy. Life's too short to worry about what a few keyboard heroes will say.

But this is one old boy that is definitely a man of my word. I will continue to browse and peruse this forum that I found as a UT fan back in 2004. But I'll stick to my guns and this will be my farewell post here. There are alot of posters here who I respect and who do great things here. I appreciate the guys and girls who keep this place running and for this to be a place where posters can share enthusiasm and sometimes sadness and misery together. Today, I'm more shocked than I have ever been over anything sports related in my life. To know that they had Gruden and let him go is unacceptable and inexcusable in my personal opinion.

I wish everyone here all the best. And please don't say oh you don't have to quit posting because of this or anything. If a man isn't as good as his word then what's he really good for?

Take care VolNation,

Dirty

You were never a dick about your thoughts on the coaching search. I see no reason for you to go anywhere, but if you feel you must, farewell. No hard feelings towards you at all. I save that for the belligerent smart-ass trolls both pro and con Gruden.

Dude you've been a member here since 2004! Don't let a 2 month long ordeal turn you out forever. Shake it off, come back. If the Gruden thing was humiliating, just don't talk about info you hear and contribute in other ways. Hell, I don't know a thing about whats going on, but its still fun to get on here.

no need to go, but no way Gruden was "a go" even on Tuesday. No way Hart was out offering $4million to Gundy and Strong over the weekend if that was true.

I find it ironic that people come on these boards, beg people like you for information, and then want you gone for giving them the info they wanted. You've admitted you were wrong, but all you did is share what you were told. For new guys like myself, I wish you would stay, your knowledge of our beloved Vols is a great help!

DnD, you've started some classic threads, ie the car saga...you should stick around, you can't compensate for Hart's incompetence

Well I really don't see why anyone has to leave because of the whole Gruden is/isn't coming thing. I'm more upset that we're gonna lose some good posters that, other than the Gruden thing, can bring some solid info to those of us that have no sources than I am about the whole coaching search.
As for your source and what they were telling you, well, I really don't know what to believe and I really don't care. I know what I know and I know what I believe but I won't get into that. I just think the whole "ban bet" thing was stupid to begin with and was/is a no win situation. In the end all it did was turn fellow Vol fans on each other at a time when we need to come together and support the team. So I say stay around and post as much as you want because I can guarantee if the bets had gone the other way there is noway any of the other people would stay away and not post if we did have Gruden as our coach.

I respect you keeping your word. My problem is when you and other posters come here and insinuate that you have information about how the search went down, don't elaborate, but make comments like, "I hope someone has the courage to report this," or "the truth will probably never come out." I have nothing against you, but that's chicken****, in my opinion. If there's something to be said, say it!

Maybe he can't say it? Just a thought. Nobody is making you believe it anyway. That's your choice, if you did.

No reason to go. The OGs were fed bad info from contacts close to boosters that wanted Gruden. End of the day Gruden was never going to come. It's not your fault.

Having said that, all the smokescreen talk was just fantasy land. Why would Hart waste his and others' time interviewing and offering if Gruden was the guy all along. It never made sense. People acted like the secrecy of hiring a football coach is like a CIA coverup.
