A few points to bring up

-Mike Griffith brought up an interesting point about the state of basketball. He feels that with the decline of the football, there is a lot more pressure on the basketball team to be good than usual.

-CofC shot 14-25 against Tennessee from 3. In yesterday's game against Morehead State, they shot 7-29.

-Scotty Hopson said that yesterday's practice was the most physical and spirited they had in a while. Pearl also agreed with that sentiment.

-Speaking of Hopson, he has increased his PPG by 4.2 points (12.2 to 16.4). However, his shooting percentages have gone down slightly.

-The Vols average more turnovers (14) than assists (13) per game this season.

-Tennessee is the worst 3pt shooting team in the conference with a percentage of .303

-Jeronne Maymon and Skylar McBee both said that if they lose playing time for the sake of the team, it's fine with them.

-Steve Forbes felt the problem for Tennessee was simple: "“It’s effort on defense,’’ (Forbes is kind of like the defensive coordinator for the team). We’re playing the man after he catches the ball instead of before he catches it.’’ This then affects the offense, he says, because they can't get out and run in transition.

-Tennessee had 2 fastbreak points against CofC, the lowest in the Pearl era.

I hope Maymon doesn't lose playing time. I'll admit I've been hard on him, but I'll give him credit for putting forth a great effort and he has been productive down low. My only complaint is for him shooting outside of 10 feet.

I thought it was the fault of message boards?

but it's pretty obvious that this bball team feels no pressure to be good anymore. They showed early what happens when you put in the effort but it doesn't look like they want to now

I think we'll definitely be up for Memphis. That said, we need to be up for every game we have left if we want to make it to the dance, and I'm not so sure we will be.

We'll have to win the SEC tournament to get in.

Morehead plays amazing defense on the perimeter because they have an enforcer in the middle of the paint

Looking closer at the field goal percentages by game...through the first 8 games the Vols held ~10% advantage, which (as we know) suggests they were playing pretty good D and had excellent offensive output.

And, 3 of the last 5 games...the data suggests the D has shut down (not in a good way). As well, the offense has simply gone into the tank over the last 5 games.

Further....the growing trend for opponents scoring percentage should have triggered serious alarms within the coaching staff some time ago.

Has anyone (professional journalists, ideally) offered any legitimate reasons why this is so?

I haven't seen any. I know Pearl talked about it but never said why it was happening

He's obviously just teasing because the way it was written was wrong.

pretty sure he just took it directly from GVX (it was written the same way there)

Seems it might be an important story for anyone covering UT bball, no? I'd think its fans would want to know why their once-promising stock seems to be tanking.

All I want to know is why we seem to give up career days for players all the time. Jody Meeks, devin downey, kid from Oakland, two players from CoC. What gives?

This. Even a guy from Temple (Christmas was his name I think) went off on us. But we definitely allow a ton of career days.

Tells you something about our defensive effort.
