A reason for hope

That's a pretty nice synopsis of the past 20+ years of QB play, but why is it a reason for hope?

Okay this one is easy, our QBs haven't been making the plays they need to make. If that doesn't change it's gonna be a long season.

I wouldnt say Worsley is inexperienced.

Come on man. Get behind our quarterback.

Being critical of his skill is one thing, but calling him names when he's working hard this summer to get better is out of line. Like him or not, he's a Vol and deserves respect for putting on that Orange.

If Ainge had not been injured against ND, I think he could have been one our best QBs ever, behind only Manning. It just screwed him up so bad mentally.

Worley needs to be the man this year running the offense like a well oiled machine, and getting the ball to our playmakers. UT needs big explosive plays that score TD's from outside the orangezone. The Vols really need to avoid third and long with a young offensive line. Throwing more interceptions than TD's or missing open wide outs will get Worley a good view from the sidelines to watch Doobs run the offense.

Ainge had talent but every so often would make some horrible decision at the worst time. It looks like he still is doing that to some degree, character flaw?. LSU benefitted from it twice in '05 and '07. Might of been what got the pain med addiction started? Bad call for whatever reason.

Yes, he was a bit of a head case as a player, Cut helped him some, but he would never go through ALL his progressions, if the primary or secondary guy wasn't open he was putting the ball in the stands rather than stepping up and running around a bit until someone came open. It used to kill me to watch him throw the ball away on third down or throw it far short of the first down marker so he wouldn't have to take a hit.

I agree if the injury never happens, he's a much different player at UT, and has a much longer NFL career. I don't want to pick on him too much. He's still a VFL, and one of the better QB's to play at UT, I'm just thinking about what could have been had he never been injured.

I think Worley was quietly 19-21 in the spring game against our 1st string D. That is my reason for optimism. Looks a lot more comfortable this year.

Yes, comfortable against his friends and teammates that play defense, but obviously the big question is can he do the same against teams that hate us and don't eat lunch and dinner with him on a daily basis.

I like your point...it gives hope!
