I'd be curious to compare what the ratio is of a players's points scored versus the points scored by the player he's defending throughout the game.

Or what is the collective field goal percentage of the players that each Vol is guarding?

If this determined playing time, Scotty would have a hard time seeing the floor.

thoughts?

It would be an interesting stat, but would probably not be very accurate since there is a lot of switches, substituting, etc. It would take about 150 statisticans trying to keep up, and they better not try to eat a hotdog during the game....:)

I wouldn't be surprised if teams intentionally caused the switching just to get Scotty as the defender.

Surprised?

I'm no basketball expert, but it does appear that particular screens are called to isolate Hopson on the wing against their shooter. I'd imagine the film tells it all, that he is lazy and takes forever to get back to the shooter. I actually gave this as a reason why it seems that teams shoot the three better against UT, than their normal averages (I say seems, because the actual stats may not reflect this).

You can watch the game and then look at post-game stats and generally have a good idea of who played well defensively. Hopson has never and will never be considered a lock-down defender.

I must agree, but do you think he has improved? I think he has, but not to a great extent or anything.

Sorry - but Scotty isn't close to be our worst defender - and that can be narrowed down to our starters too.

I don't think anyone implied that he is our worst. I'd put Scotty and Tobias about on the same defensive level. I think the only other starter you could argue is the worst is Brian, but I have a hard time gauging his talent sometimes.

Quote from the OP. I think that's implying he thinks he is actually our worst defender.. atleast that starts.

I do think he has improved somewhat. However, the intensity and aggressiveness is not there on a consistent basis and likely never will be. It is likely a personality issue. It is very hard to turn a passive personality into an aggressive personality. He does not give total effort and after 3 years isn't likely to change. He's not a bad kid and probably thinks he's giving all he has.

Brian Williams is a fairly solid post defender. Harris is significantly worse than him defensively.
