A Study about a study about studies? Say What?

Considering that this originated from the military, I am not surprised.

Makes sense. This type of stuff, when originated by the make love, not war crowd is perfectly sensible. Hell, since man has proven to have relinquished all greed and forgone power, the idea of a military is just stupid. We should save the cash and plant flowers.

Of course it is, I commissioned a study of insanely idealistic pacifists and they decided it was the thing to do. The level of enlightenment in that crowd was unbelievable.

The idea of an standing military that is ready to deploy anywhere in the world on a moments notice is a bad idea. The decision to go to war should require great deliberation and an understanding of the sacrifices involved. A military that is ready to respond immediately, removes a barrier to deliberation; a standing military of "volunteers" removes the understanding of a shared sacrifice.

Some questions:

Do you honestly believe that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were necessary for our self-defense?

Do you honestly believe that we would have ever engaged in these wars if we did not already possess a large standing army of "volunteers"; i.e. an army that would have had to have been raised through conscription with no waivers for education, family, etc.?
