Time to get tactical. Time of year to start paying attention beyond the SEC to what can affect us from across the nation.

And this weekend, it all comes down to two key games: ours against Mizzou, and TCU's trip to Texas.

Forget the #1 Dawgs, #2 Ohio State, and #3 Michigan. None of them are losing this weekend (vs Mississippi State, Indiana, and Nebraska, respectively). All three of the leaders are above 80% likelihood to win, and Vegas has them all as multi-touchdown favorites. Set them aside for now.

The #6 Oregon-#25 Washington game could be a little more interesting, so be aware of how to find it on your TV -- 6pm Central, 7pm Eastern, on Fox. But still, ESPN' FPI gives the Ducks a 78% likelihood of winning, with Vegas making them a 12.5 point favorite. So you probably won't need to use your TV remote for this one.

And that brings it down to our game, and TCU's. So here's the Tactician's Timeline in week 11:

11:00 am Central, noon Eastern -- get the TV onto CBS for our #5 Vols hosting unranked Mizzou in Neyland. We're probably gonna score 50 or more, blowing all the carbon buildup out of our system from last week's rough idle. Fingers crossed, all the lads stay healthy while we take the Woke Tigers out behind the woodshed for a good old-fashioned butt-whuppin'.

~ 2:30 pm Central, 3:30 Eastern -- break time. Go get a beer and maybe a late lunch, stretch, play a pickup game in the yard with all the willing parents and kids in the neighborhood, then get back inside for a quick shower, another beer and a nice dinner. Because the second part of the Tactician's double-header is about to come on.

Now, you _could_ spend this time watching #9 Bama face off against #11 Ole Miss. It has no tactical effect on us, but might be amusing to see Nick and Kiffin abusing each other for a few hours. That game is also on CBS, so no need even to change channel.

6:30 pm Central, 7:30 Eastern -- flip the TV to ABC, because here is where the B12 says, "oh, excuse me, I didn't realize I was in your seat" to Tennessee, and moves promptly out of the playoff picture. Yep, #4 TCU is at #18 Texas for this night game, and ESPN's FPI does not like the Horny Frogs' chances (just 27% chance of a W). Vegas doesn't like them either, and made Texas the 7-point favorite.

~ ~ ~

And that should do it for Week 11. Only thing left to do will be tuning into ESPN Tuesday night to see the Vols back in the Top 4, slated for the playoffs.

Go Vols!

Style points will begin to mean a lot to the committee now that we have the loss to Georgia. Heupel needs to hold the gas pedal to the metal over the next three games. Gawdy, eye-popping numbers will go a long way in helping UT secure a playoff spot. That might even help HH regain some traction in the Heisman race.

This is all pretty good, but I would add, we also need LSU to beat Arkansas, and the Tigers are only a 3 pt fav on the road.

Yea, we need to win "pretty." I just don't see an 11-1 Tennessee team not in the final four.

Actually Bama/OleMiss does affect us very much. IF Bama loses it hurts us as it makes our win against them look weaker. Them winning helps our resume.

The only way Bama loses to Ole Miss is if they truly have given up, and in that case, there really is trouble in Tuscaloosa and Saban’s reign is likely over.

Good analysis...but boy, overconfidence scares me a little. I know we need style points, but mainly I just hope we win out. I hope there's no hangover this weekend--Mizzou has a tough defense. That, coupled with the emotion of senior day, can change the play of a lot of guys.

SoCar next weekend scares me a little too. I don't like looking ahead, and I know they're not very good, but they have a rabid fan base who saw how Georgia fans affected our offense, and it's a night game--all that much more raucous. I don't think the Cocks have lost a night game in a long time at home (not 100% positive about that).

I know I'll get some flack for negativity, and I think we'll win out, and I know we're just the fans and not on the field, but first thing we need to think about in all these games---win! Then we can worry about style points and the commitee reaction.

Still it would be nice to see bama get at least 3 regular season losses, so recruits will start looking elsewhere to an over the hill Saban!
Sometimes what we want is not in our best interests. US making the playoffs would have a much bigger positive effect on recruiting short and long-term than Bama losing a 3rd game this year. It is always in our best interests for our opponents to beat everyone they play except for us as it validates the win. If UT is beating a 3-4 loss Bama and UGA and FL every year we are in the same situation as a TCU. A good record against bad competition is meh.
