i keep hearing everyone saying that we need a tennessee guy as coach and ad, and i have no clue why everyone is up in arms about this. we need the best guy for the job, and where he was previously shouldnt matter.

will muschamp went to georgia
spurrier went to and coached florida
saban coached lsu before bama
mark richt went to miami and coached at fsu

so if the top teams in the sec can win with guys from outside their program, why is it so imperative that we get a guy from tennessee, as long as they are committed to the university?

Because a lot of people feel like there are too many Florida and Alabama people in positions of power at Tennessee. Id like to think that these are businessmen first and foremost and their loyalties lie with whoever is paying them.

Hart sure isnt doing himself any favors though. I have a feeling that he will not be with Tennessee as long as Hamilton was.

see thats kinda my point, i dont have a problem with their being a "florida or bama" guy. i have a problem if there is a bad guy in the position, no matter where he came from. it just strikes me as ridiculous to think that these highly paid professionals wouldnt do their all to be successful at their current position

So you'll have no problem telling us what Hart has done incorrectly?

Although I agree about getting the best man for the job, its nice to know there's some loyalty to the program and a desire to stay long enough to finish rebuilding the program and provide some stability.

Ex. Gary Patterson is arguably the best coach for the job. If he takes this job, then Texas fires Brown after another mediocre season next year, is he gonna bolt for that job?

I hear Saban is 'going home' to Kent State next year because they want a KSU man. Let's hire back Majors and Fulmer. Each could coach 1/2 a year so they don't wear themselves down in the Winter & Autumnal years of their lives

Hasnt necessarily done anything wrong. Rumors could be just that. Rumors. But fair or unfair he is quickly passing Lane Kiffin up as UT football public enemy #1. I hope for everyones sake he makes what turns out to be a great hire and all of this mess is forgotten. As long as UT becomes relevant again I personally do not care who is running the show.

Hart has done nothing wrong, Why are you guys on his case???...He's done a fine job so far...None of you have any idea who he has talked to or been in contact with so until the new coach is hired relax...I swear some of you won't even give the new coach a chance no matter who it is.

We've got the burden on our AD budget to payout money on 3 fired coaches right now baseball, basketball and football...(our dept ran at almost $4million deficit last year)...so we have a reason to feel drawn to "a TN guy"...I get that....it feels safer while we
lick our wounds as a school right now.

Maybe it's because we think that pick would stay for the long haul because he would care more about our program by being from Tennessee... it is tempting, but who in TN has the talent as a coach, will attract good recruits that want to play under him,
and has the social skills to keep the alumni/fans that hold the purse strings happy?
I'd sure like to know who that would be...I'd settle for anyone from the south in general long as they can deliver...

cuz Lord knows we all don't want someone that's not tough enough to take this mess on and then quit or be fired again...we are already scarred for life on that issue!

Go Band!

After our last 'Tennessee Guy' Fulmer got intrenched into the good ole boy regime it took outright revolt to root him out. Don't want to risk any more of that.

Makes me shudder to think of all the games Third and Chavis could give away if he were the head guy. No lead was safe with that rascal.

You already have a Tennessee guy in the UTAD that is qualified to hold Hart's job in Blackburn. After all those years learning the ropes and keeping their tails out of trouble with the Kiffin mess among other things, they proceed to hire an AD from somewhere else. So you see what being a Tennessee guy gets you. Ignored.

Had Fulmer and Majors focused just a little of their time on helping Tennessee guys get big jobs that would have promoted their careers, there would have been numerous Tennessee guys as candidates for the UT head coaching position. But that didn't happen either. So the Tennessee head coaching trees are pretty short.

How many assistant coaches that were former UT players did Kiffin have? One. How many did Dools have? Two. He fired one in the Kiffin holdover of Chuck Smith. He got Graham because Graham wanted to come back and received a 3 year contract, which was against Hart's policy at the time. So there is another 4 years of UT history gone by with very little to show for it for future Tennessee guys.

So let's just get us some more Bammers and Gators and other crap to fix Tennessee. That's been working so well, right Gator Cheek? At least Gruden got his start with Majors and married a Tennessee girl. But that is not a part of Bammer Hart's plan apparently.

It show how badly Majors and Fulmer were at developing coaches. There is no one who played for either of them who is head coach material at this time. therefore, there is no way we can get a Tennessee"guy" to be head coach.

the Hart comments were sort of off the subject to begin with but like I said.. Could just be rumors. Im not saying Hart has done anything wrong. Id like to think that he hasnt. What im trying to get at more than anything is that a lot of people, fair or not will always point the finger at Hart on this Gruden mess because hes not a "Tennessee man"

I personally couldnt care less if the guys running the show were middle school dropouts as long as UT becomes relevant again.
