Im almost on the outside: I now live in TN and my kid will be at UT in the fall, so not quite and outsider anymore.

HERE IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO ME: While BP brought you some national attention for winning games, playing hard, wearing a godawful jacket, and forming a great bond between your mens and your far superior womens programs, he also brought you national attention for cheating. He wasnt handing out checks, and buying cars, but the things that he did were obvious offenses and he knew better than to do that. He made mistakes that are unforgivable and firing him was the right thing to do.

It should have been done early in the season, but the administration didnt want to lose basketball games. They put winning above integrity. I think that was the wrong direction to take.

It sucks that there are pieces to put together after he is gone. It sucks that you have to start, not at the bottom, but closer to it that you deserve to be.

The players and you folks as fans deserve better. You should expect to have a coach hired that is of great moral character, that will bring in studs with unquestionable character and ABILITY, and you should expect to win right away.

This is not ol miss. This is not Auburn, or bama. the University of Tennessee should be able to stumble through the year and still have a winning basketball program.

Best of luck to you all (yall) and I look forward to catching a few games with my kid next year.

No offense but If Vegas let me gamble on what fan base did the "outside view threads" I'd be pretty rich. Literally it is always some gator fan. I have no problem with your post but it seems as if gator fans think they have the best view point and HAVE to start a thread about it. There are plenty of threads you can post that opinion in. Sorry it's just getting annoying. Again no offense to you and there is nothing wrong with your opinion.

He's 100% correct.

That's fine but there is no need to put a spot light on his opinion. Would you get annoyed if I made a thread "from a 23 year olds point of view" and just stated my opinion. Again I dont disagree with him at all and if it was Facebook I'd "like it" just an observation that's all.

Preciate it. I think Hamilton planned on keeping him but the September and March violations were just too much. Then again he could have known Pearl was gonna be fired earlier and just docked his salary to thereby make his eventual buyout cheaper. I don't know what goes on in Mike's head though. But thanks I guess.

Hope you enjoy the games at UT. Careful, they're addictive.

No offense taken, but I also went to Michigan State.

I didnt like the direction that any of the other threads were headed. Im not a whiner/complainer/neg bomber, but I also could not see myself posting in a "we love BP and wish him well" thread either.

I appreciate your comment and I understand that there are some very self-righteous Gator Fans out there. Im not trying to be one of "those guys".

Thanks again. (and one of these days I will get myself to actually say "go vo.....go VVVVVVOO.....damn, just cant get it all out right now!!) :)

Thanks. Im sure we will have a great time. My kids were raised as Spartans and Gators, so it will be quite a change for us. But tKid will be getting a great education and we will all enjoy the UT experience together. It will be good times for certain!

 Im sure we will have a good time

(truth: coming out of HS I had a choice between UF and UT. There were already a couple skirts I was chasing at UF, so that was my choice. It worked out well for a while. . . . . . but not long term. Ive never been a Vol Hater.)

Gator's kid going to UT... every father's dream... A kid that turns out better than he did. It's a beautiful thing.

I read most of the OP. Did he just slap us Vol fans in the face or kick us when we are down? Reminds me of the time Ric Flair did the figure four on Hulk Hogan then tried to help him up only to bit&& slap him. And this time the referee was NOT unconscious!

aaah. no. I did neither. I dont believe in kicking someone when they are down. Sports are for entertainment purposes only. (now that I am done playing them). I dont feel any better about my life because someone else is suffering. (unless it is the michigan walverines)

I think BP is a good guy that meant well. Made mistakes. I hope the best for him, and for the ut mens bball team. (except when you play UF.) The situation sucks. I hope you can make the best of it from here.

:good!:

and tKid is likely to be a varsity athlete at UT. will have to see how that all pans out.

Turned down a full ride (academic scholly) to Mich State to stay closer to home. Good kid that will make UT proud to have on campus.

I didn't mean anything snappy by it. I have a UF grad degree. I just enjoyed the Knoxville GameDay a lot more. UF won more games than UT while I was there though.

UF's GameDay traditions are tailgating throughout the campus (and w/o the self-destructive nature of UGA fans), Mr. 2-Bits (who I believe is retired), and the Welcome to the Swamp entrance video.

UT has the Vol Navy, the Vol Walk (there probably is a Gator Walk, but I don't recall it getting near the publicity), the Pride of the Southland parading in, a much better pregame performance by the band, and a live mascot.

I can't deny who is winning more. But, I don't think the two GameDays are even close. I have been to every SEC East stadium at least twice each, and I have been to LSU, Auburn, and Ole Miss in the West. The only one that compares to UT, IMO, is LSU. And, of course, Ole Miss has the infamous Grove.

Thanks. I didnt take it as you being snappy. Im enjoying the comments through this thread. It is good to laugh once in a while, and it has been a slow week for laughs here at work!!

Florida has the Gator Walk also. And even though I was in the band there at UF I am not a fan of their pregame traditions. I think there is a lot more they could do at a school like that.

HOWEVER. I was also in the drumline at Michigan State. I would put them up against anyone for pregame traditions and feel pretty good about it.

"The walk"
The tailgating (the University had to tone them down a bit in the last 10 years. It was getting ugly.)
Drumline performance in the morning
Band marching to the stadium
Pregame show is tops.

Great, great atmosphere for a game. Now hopefully the team can keep winning.

I know it is not the SEC, but it is a great atmosphere.

My fav SEC gamedays (havent been to UT yet, so cannot count it)

UF - yeah, I kinda like it there
LSU - Have only been for one night game and it was crazy. Beyond crazy.
Auburn - been there twice. Enjoyable. Not writing home about it though
uga - blah
ol miss - blah
Miss St - blah

Big Ten: MSU Tops.
Wiscy - very good time
O$U - good time. subdued, but good
Iowa - decent. too cold
Olivet College - even the D3 schools are better than um
michigan - worst college gameday I have ever been to. Campus is part of the city of ann arbwhore, so it is sort of lame.

Looking forward to the fall, and the next 6-8 years (the kid is going to vet school on the 3+1 plan)
