Read this today. Thought it was funny. Enjoy

In 1960 General Robert Neyland, the hall of fame coach from Tennessee was the head of the NCAA rules committee. There had become growing sentiment that college football needed to go to a two platoon system (meaning players didn't have to play both ways) of which he was staunchly opposed. He tried to close the annual rules committee meeting without addressing the topic at which time Frank Howard, the Clemson coach said "General you're trying to avoid the most critical issue in college football, unlimited substitutions!" So Neyland said "fine, lets have a poll, who's in favor of unlimited substitutions?" to which 11 members of the committee raised their hands. Then he said "who is in opposition?" he then raised his own hand, and grabbed the hand of the secretary sitting next to him and forced his hand up as well and said "As far as I can see there doesn't seem to be enough sentiment to return to that chicken **** style of football, meeting adjourned!

Unless I read the OP's story wrong, he'd probably agree with Saban.

Coaches at the time were wanting fresh legs on the field, were complaining about safety and fatigue, so no.
