Why do weathermen and reporters feel compelled to stand in the wind and rain while they report on a Hurricane??? Do they realize how idiotic it is to stand in the rain for no apparent reason? Do they think we just won't believe them unless they themselves are getting pelted by sideways rain and blowing debris?

Wouldn't it be a lot better if they just sat in the news van and talked and maybe if they needed a visual aid they could just tie off a rope to the rear bumper and throw a poodle out the window?

for the same reason that when, for instance, there is a hostage situation they are standing in front of the door..

And they do all that for...

"Yes indeed, it's windier and rainier than $@%& out here, Susan. Back to you"

:shakehead: Hopefully they get a nice bonus check for that

Could be worse? But more entertaining if the sports side-line analyst,
Would suit up and report on field during kickoffs. They want their cheezy face all over the tv, That would do it.

It's the news version of reality TV, not to mention that people will do anything for money.

The worst part is when they stand in front of a gas station and call a little aluminum siding flapping in the wind... "Total devastation"!

I saw the weather channel once when Mike Seidel, or somebody was talking about how "brutal" the winds were in Florida, when suddenly in the background, a couple came strolling past and her hair wasn't even blowing. Ol' Mike was fighting to keep his hat on and this couple aren't even getting a breeze. That must have been a pretty big fan Mike was standing in front of.

Don't know yet. My sister left tonight to go to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach to board up her beach house. Has to drive back all night because her husband is head of Emergency Preparedness Squad in Baton Rouge. All essential personnel has to report to the storm centers by 7am tomorrow morning. Looks like it could turn more to the west towards New Orleans. That will be a HUGE evacuation, and all of our hotels in BTR are full from people driving in from Pensacola and Mobile, etc.. It's really sad for Florida. They have had so many storms since Ivan last fall that they are making permanent friends here from the evacuations. They were just here in July for Hurricane Dennis. We will know more tomorrow. But the Gulf of Mexico is really warm and that intensifies the storms. This one is slowing down, NOT a good sign.
