This season only marks the 5th season in which the following staff has been in place.... Phil Fulmer as the head coach, David Cutcliffe as the offensive coordinator, and John Chavis as the defensive coordinator.From 1995-98 plus the first 6 games of 2006, the Vols have accomplished the following:

All Games 49-6 (0.89)
Regular Season 45-5 (0.90)
SEC Regular Season 30-4 (0.88)
SEC Championship Games 2-0 (1.00)
Bowls 2-1 (0.67)
BCS/Alliance/Coalition Bowls 0-1 (0.00)
vs Ranked 14-5 (0.74)
vs Top Ten [AP] 7-5 (0.58)

NOTE: John Chavis did not assume the d-coord. position until the 1995 season. David Cutcliffe did not coach in the 1999 Fiesta Bowl.



Contrast that to the games from 1999-2005 (including the '99 Fiesta Bowl), or as some may call them, "The Randy Sanders Years":

Another reason this may be a good year. There is the same preseason number 1 team.

First, I thought that I'd mention that in the Fulmer/Cutcliffe/Chavis category, the winning percentage versus ranked teams is 76.5% (record of 13-4), not 60%.

While Cutcliffe is obviously a HUGE improvement over Randy Sanders, the winning percentages from 1995-1998 should be phenomenal. In those years, you have the sophomore, junior and senior seasons for Peyton Manning, you have Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and Travis Stephens toting the rock at running back, and in 1998 you have arguably one of, if not the best defense this team has fielded in at least the last 30 years. So while Cutcliffe is a huge improvement over Sanders, don't be expecting a 91% overall winning percentage just because he has returned to Knoxville. Finding the next Peyton, Lewis, Henry and Stephens is equally as important. At least with Cutcliffe coaching the QB's again, our QB's will at least show improvement rather than regression in their skills.

Dude...It's allvol. Don't even try to correct his stats. He is the stats king, and the most interesting read during the season. HAT only wishes his stats ability were up to allvol.
