The mortgage/housing collapse is a huge issue here. Prices are way down, tax revenues are way down. Frustration is through the roof.

DO NOT blame the borrowers !! Floridians are in no mood to hear the establishment, big business claim that this is their own fault.

If I'm coaching Newt, I am telling him do not defend getting $ from Freddie by saying too many loans to too many people. It will backfire.

If I am coaching Romney, I am telling him to make every question about Newt bring part of the financual industry scam that has bilked Floridians of their futures.

I would like to hear both candidates just tell is how they really feel about this issue. Too much to ask?

Wrote the OP on the way to the grocery store from the gym.

Got home, turned on the tv, and there's a super pac ad on for Romney talking about how Gingrich personally made $1.6 million while Floridians were "bankrupted" by the financiers and big banks.

Guess I'm not the only one who thinks that is a weakness for Ginrich that can be exploited down here.

It worked in Iowa. I think they thought they had him down for the count after NH and didn't keep it up in SC

I agree 100 pct

Add two things.

First, polls show 2/3 of South Carolina voters decided in the last two days. Given the reported DELUGE if ads, calls, and mailers, I don't see how that is possible. But that's evidently the deal. And that placed a premium on that last debate, which really unfolded miraculously for Newt.

Second, there has been a 30+ point shift here. Romney was way ahead, now he's down by a dozen. He is going to have to come out swinging tonight and I'll bet he and his super PAC ads moving forward become just ferocious in attacking Newt.

Is this debate tonight on TV? I don't see it listed, or is there not a debate?

LG,
How hard are the Newt super pacs hitting Romney?

I've seen just a couple of ads so far, but I am assuming they are going to be basically inescapable soon, especially because I live in the famous I 4 corridor (Orlando to Tampa).

Newt starts off quick with being anti-Washington establishment, and I get my first eye roll in.

I can hear Ron Paul snoring in the background. If I was Santorum or Paul I would flip out at these things.

I confess I am torn on this rule that the audience can't react. On the one hand, it does seem to focus attenton a little more on the substance of the answers. On the other, it seems to rob the event of a lot of possible energy.

I thought it was the most substantive debate and thought Williams did a good job overall.

Thought the NBC post debate coverage was terrible - it was all political inside baseball about Romney v Gingrich as opposed to discussing any policy positions that were discussed. News has become reality TV.

Overall not a bad debate. Not sure who so called "won" it but overall ok debate. The post debate sucked.
