Looks like Aaron Sears is going to stay for one more year! Should be some articles about it later on this morning. :dance2:

Yes we do. Great news, and proud to have him back. You hate to see the kids go out on a note like last year.

Is it really good news to have personnel returning from one of the three worst offensive lines at UT in the last 30 years?

Sears is a good lineman. Why do you think this is the worst OL in 30 years?

He will be a good captain for the offense. Our commits, Jacques McClendon and Darius Myers (both of whom have All SEC potential) will definitely respect a guy who could have bolted and had a significant payday but instead wanted to stick around and repair the program. It seems like Aaron has exaclty the kind of attitude the Vols need for '06.

Not to be flippant, but did you watch our offense this year? We had to go to a shotgun, quick passing offense to keep our QBs from being killed and we were unable to run the ball when we needed to against quality opponents. Also, the constant penalties at inopportune moments negated any good work the line may have done. The '88 team's problem was defense, not the O-Line. The 2002 O-Line was the only one that jumps to mind as being as porous as the '05 unit.

It was definitely not our best O-line but the problems you mention have as much to do with the ineffectiveness of the receivers in getting open, the QBs hitting the receivers when they did get open, and the general meltdown that Riggs seems to have suffered (he really did not do much even when the line made him a hole).

You are saying the whole season stuck because of the OL. Don't buy it. Sears is a good player. We can debate what went wrong all day long but I would rather take some folks who screwed up this year then a newbie on the line. The folks who screwed up will learn from their mistakes and they certainly have plenty of them to draw from. Think the coaching changes will also benefit the OL and not just the QB.

They were't that bad but probably didn't live up to their potential. Our combined feature tailback (Riggs/Foster) rushed for over 1000 also they didn't give up that many QB sacks compared to say BAMA's OL.

Given that we were in the shotgun and throwing two step drop patterns most of the year, I would hope they didn't give up that many sacks.

Think we're gonna have to agree to disagree.

"It was so frustrating, and I'm not used to losing," said Sears, who almost certainly will be a captain on next season's team. "I didn't want to go out that way. I wanted to come back and help get this ship righted and back on good waters."

Yes, that sounds exactly like the right attitude. Welcome back Arron!

Not sure I agree about worst in 30 years, but Jimmy Ray Stephens leaving should help regardless.

Way to go Arron. We need the experience on the line. Sounds like he wants to step up and take some onfield leadership, we need it.

Lets all pray the Big Man stays healthy. He should be a great captain and mentor for Parker, Young, Foster, McNeil, Scott, McClendon. Thanks...Arron!

Last thing i read was he really needed that year in the weight room. We should see plenty of him at C during the O/W game :cross: . His pancake block stats from highschool were unbelievable.
