Scout.com: Hardwood hero

Can't find him as a basketball prospect on any recruiting site, so I guess he's not very highly regarded. What's the deal with this? Was this just used to lure him to Knoxville, or does Pearl actually think he can contribute?

I think it will be the same as most of the players that come here thinking they will be 2 sport athletes. Ainge wanted to play 2 sports and was on the Roster his Frosh year I think. I think David Ligon tore his ACL playing basketball too. Not sure if it was intramural or NCAA though. He will most likely see how hard it is to just play 1 sport and stick w/ football.

speaking of playing 2 sports..North Carolinas Greg Little plays for the Tarheels basketball team. Maybe these NC guys just think it is the thing to do.

This guy looks like one fine specimen....if he is at reciever Im goin too be very excited.....6'5 210 4.6 40.......would be a nightmare for any 6'1 180 cornerback.....what are the fellow VOLNAtion thoughts on this one

He could be a nightmare... pending he can catch the ball. He definitely should be athletic enough for WR, especially if he can learn the position. But, as we've seen with Vinson, it takes more than athleticism to be WR, but no one knows how Clawson will want to implement him... or if he gets turned over to Chavis.

I think this spring will be the closest I've followed the team in a long while.

I see us doing the same thing with him that we do with most recruits...

Put weight on him and move him to a differant position than we recruited him for...

I could see him putting on 30-40 lbs and moving to TE or DE...depending on which side of the ball we need him on the most

Heard this kid might play professional baseball if he gets drafted high enough.

i like him at WR....he could be our only true Redzone WR. 6'5'' goin up against 5'11''......i like our chances. i also think that his 40 is closer to 4.5

Rivals has him with a 38 inch vertical, which at 6'5 would make him unstoppable running a fade in the red zone. I watched his videos, and I like what he brings on defense a lot more. He has really good instincts and tackles well. It'll be interesting to watch, I think he's a great pick-up either way.

If both Ward and Fowlkes work out at WR, we'll have 2 ~4.5 40, 6'5 220ish WRs to help Crompton out. Looks good. They could both be particularly nasty.

Yeah...but think about all that at 40 lbs heavier playing at TE...

He'd be like the second coming of Vernon Davis...

No. No. NO.

Vernon Davis is a freak in that he has WR speed at TE size. Considering that Ward is a good 40 lbs. lighter and slower (by .2 of a second) probably weaker, and has 4" less in vertical... that is a very scant possibility. But I'm also not saying that Ward won't go to UT and find his inner mutant abilities.

There are guys that have the frame to bulk up and not sacrifice their speed and agility, and those that can't. But don't expect a natural "Vernon Davis" in the next several years from any school.

Thinking he will stay on offense unless he turns out to be a Julius Pepper type of player.. Either way I aint complaining.
