Only 4 teams seem to matter here for our recruiting class. The quick and dirty run down:

UVA. If Al Groh is fired it could hurt us if someone ressurects the moribund program in Charlottesville and locks down the Tidewater area. In the short term, it could only help us if we get Morgan Moses who UT will lead for if Groh is fired. Morgan may be too large at almost 350 to play for us (Cregg evaluated him during the bye week). Groh is on the hot seat no matter what else happens because he lost to William and Mary to start the year. People are also tired of horrid starts after which he cares enough to coach em up to save his job.

UNC
Butch Davis now helms a team that is 4-3 but a misleading 4-3. 3 of the wins are against the Citadel, East Carolina and Georgia Southern, and they have what looked like it would be a nice victory against UConn (12-10) but now UConn is falling apart.

They are 0-3 in the conference. Farms and Leifheit are two nice 4 star OL, but we rejected Leifheit. If we could sway James Hurst before the early enrollment period we would certainly sign him.

NC State
This team is 3-4 and their best win is against Pittsburgh. Gardner Webb and Murray State are two of their wins. They lost badly to Duke...Coming up Florida State and Virginia Tech should be losses, and probably Clemson although they are a schizo team performance wise. Maryland and North Carolina are not sure wins, but even if they get both, they would not be bowl eligible. This what not what Tom O'Brien left BC for, but he has lost 9 players this season to injury.

We no longer want the attitude problem that is Fre'Shad Hunter who has been kicked off his HS team.

The key here is Robert Crisp. We would love to take him. We do not want his friend, the only remaining package I see is we may offer Mosley to get Dyer, but we would love to tell Crisp we are on the way and NC State is not. Even in a weaker conference, when you look at that class, I think the fact that TN is in a whole different world recruiting wise and NFL coaching wise should be clear to big Rob.

Florida State
It is not so much who FSU has now who we want as who FSU was leading for who we want.
Bobby Bowden has seen members of the Board of Trustees asking him to step down!
They are at 3-4 with 1 conference win. They are going to likely reach 6 wins, but that is enough to signal serious trouble for their recruiting. We have already seen the impact.

We got Corey Miller.

Lamarcus Joyner is the guy we want most who everyone thought was headed to FSU.

Christian Green is a guy we have a great shot with, who if FSU was having a different year we might fade on.

The struggles of FSU benefit the Gators in their recruitment of Demar Dorsey, Matt Elam, Jordan Haden and Jaylen Watkins, but that also has led to a crowded DB class and that may help us with Elam (although that is faint hope for me).

Another couple guys FSU struggles help us with include:
Mitchell, Riggs, Christian Jones,
D Robinson
Jeff Luc
Chaz Green
Corey Lemonier
John Cullen
Kenny Shaw
CJ Mosley

As you can see, FSU being down from the ACC directly impacts our recruiting far more than any other school. It benefits us but it also benefits our rivals like UF and Alabama who are going after those same players.

We better hope Crisp and Hurst dont decommitt from NC State and UNC, because if they do Crisp will end up at Georgia and Hurst at Alabama or Georgia.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious...there's not a team in the country that wouldn't want Joyner.

Almost everthing mentioned is a reach or a best-case scenario.

I don't pretend to have info. Somethings this guy posts make sense...others are just SOOOO repetitive and out there. There's a difference.

I don't see the point in repeating something that most others have already stated.

I could tell how much I want Joyner and how dynamic of a player he is. He tends to overcommit at times, but rivals or scout will tell you that. I could also say how much I want Player A or Player B...but everyone already knows!

Why repeat the same things?! You can't take someone seriously when nearly everything they have to say is a reach and pretty much biased.

When he posts something I agree with or that I think is pertinent, I make sure he knows. If you're looking for an argument...you might as well look elsewhere.

I made it clear that these are committed guys we are trying to take from UNC and NC State, and if you notice as I posted in the last 12 hours a predicted OL, it had neither guy.

Some people who do not follow the ACC that closely may be interested in the info. If you did not want to read it, you did not have to do so.

We are not really competing with anyone else in the ACC for a big prospect any of us would care about.

The new information is that we may not even want Morgan Moses. The other info is that FSU having a very down year (even though they came back and beat UNC last night) is having a dramatic impact on us in recruiting.

Some people like learning more about the interrelatedness of stuff like if Garner leaves UGA or Willie M gets fired, or Strong leaves UF, or Mikki Andrews retires, how that impacts us.

Other people read lots more recruiting and CFB stuff than I do and could care less about my analysis. C'est la vie. It is a free message board, not ESPN Insider.

All of those are guys who an undefeated FSU would have probably been higher on than us.

I am still holding out small hope for Mosley, but it is small. I have not predicted him in our class at all, because I think he is heading to Alabama.

As you can see from the sentence about Alabama and Florida, I think you are now and for the foreseeable future for Lane Kiffin (no matter what happens tomorrow) going to be the major competition for us in recruiting.

Alabama will actually be our primary rival recruiting on offense because even if Brantley tries to run some pro style, I cannot see Meyer dropping the spread.

TN and Alabama will also go head to head on lots of LB's and DB's but I never see us challenging you for a Cody type guy who does not fit our defense.

On OL are you surprised you guys are not pushing more for Morgan Moses?

It seems like we may be recruiting OL who are a bit smaller than your targets.

That said either of our teams I think would be happy with Arie K or D Robinson, even though we could both miss and then settle for James Stone.

I don't think our DL future will be based on Cody size players. No one we have behind him is that size. His back up is 6'1 305 and 3rd string is 6'4 323. Our incoming 2010 class might the fastest class yet that we have. Our defense best asset right now is our speed and we will be quicker in the future. It is why we cover teams so well on the outside and inside this year.

We might compete for LBs but I think DBs we look for something different. Saban likes lockdown corners that can play man to man so he can blitz more. I see Monte looking more for cover zone DB type.

TAFKA > ESPN Insider.

I'm not trying to bash...I just can't figure out if you're holding out hope or just presenting everyone with guys that have the slightest little bit of interest. I really hope you understand that we probably don't land 50% of the names listed. Its just unrealistic and the nature of the recruiting game.

I have supreme confidence that we fill out the available scholly spots with guys that meet a need and have potential to help us win. I'm just not gonna throw out the typical "I have faith in this staff" or "with this staff, you can't can't out anyone."

That gets thrown out too often...we all understand and feel the same way. Sometimes its not about stars or hype, though...its about talent, need, and fit for what we're trying to do.

Yes as I said, I presented everyone on a list that is now merged in the who do we drop thread.

It had my best guess predictions which read of a group of A, B, C, D we get 1 and then my other predictions.

I do not think I am that far on a limb to say we get Dyer because we bring in Dakota Mosley. I hope we keep Delvin Jones but I see him at Miami etc.

I was wrong about Miami back in August. Boy I thought Randy Shannon would get fired before the end of the season...WRONG...

I am glad we do not play GT regularly anymore. That is the kind of offense that even if you win the game you have defensive players hurt.

This was just an ACC rundown because I watched the FSU game v. UNC and it got me thinking.
