So as I understand it, before Dave Hart (or any AD) can speak with a potential coaching candidate he must first get permission from that coaches AD. If the candidate is a quality coach (Gundy, Patterson, Stoops) why would their current AD give that permission?

Thanks in advance!

Well this isn't the NFL so they don't HAVE to, its just a professional courtesy. Any AD can call any coach they want at anytime without ever letting the other AD know.

My impression is that this is just an unwritten courtesy, not any sort of rule. With agents and reps, I doubt that the 1:1 meeting is the first or second contact with a candidate, (except maybe for Mike Hamilton).

Oh when Hammy hired Fooley I remembered him saying he got permission from the AD at the same time in a way that made it look like he was trying to cover his own arse. That's why I thought it was a rule or something. But that explains why they say yes, because if they said no the other AD would do it anyway... makes since now... thank you
