I like to focus on the line play when watching the replay of the game on CSS. Offensively, I really think the guys are starting to play as a unit. That is great to see with the meat of the schedule looming.

Also, I know the Nation is having a love affair with LaMarcus right now, but I haven't seen the kind of hard downhill running that Arian produced Saturday since his work at the end of last season.
Welcome back Arian, we need you big time.

Defensively, the score seems to suggest that I am an idiot for suggesting this, but I still don't think the D-Line is getting off it's blocks well enough to make a big statement in the coming weeks.
The ends seem to be getting better every week though.
Progress but not an arrival yet I think.

just some thoughts....

I agree about Coker and Foster. Coker is very explosive and will probably ultimately end up being better, but right now I think it's clear that Foster is the guy that is going to consistenly get the tough yards.

Also agree with you on the d-line. Fulmer even commented during the post game show that at times it looked like our defensive line had velcro on their chests which I thought was a perfect description. It was like blockers just stuck to them.

Our unspecial kick coverage is gonna cost us if they don't fix it.

The scary thing to me on the kicks is that if you watch the two runbacks, it wasn't like there were a bunch of Daunte Hall/Deion Sanders moves in there. The return guys just ran to the wedge, made one move and were gone.

I agree with you on that assesment.

How about the replay reversal on the Brett Smith bobble/catch? I can't believe that is what they call "indisputable video evidence." After watching it 20 times, I didn't see anything that made that "indisputable."

I also loved the tackle that McBride made on lumpkin while being tackled himself!! Where was the flag for that and the late hit out of bounds on Meach?

Was it McBride or Mitchell? I saw that as well and some other big holds that were not called. Lumpkin was running all over us and we jumped on them at the right time to scare them out of the run. Hope we can shore up some good run def. soon.

Perhaps it depends on the type of game we're playing, but I think Coker is the most dynamic player on the team with the ball in his hands. That includes Meachem, who for some reason looks like Terrell Owens out there now.

Between his kick returns, screen runs, and blowing through the hole; if I had to pick one to go with I'm taking Coker. He is so quick. Reminds me of C Garner a little -- but a little bigger.

at first i thought the same....but he never took a step with full control of the ball...i thought it was a good call.

the late hit on Meach though on the sideline, i can't believe that wasn't called.

I agree...I think this could become one of the best 1-2 punches the program has produced...and it's a sophmore and a freshman.

Good post. I agree with the original post, but i definetely agree with this one. Like he said, it wasn't great moves or breaking tackles - my grandmother in her wheelchair could have be rolled down the field through our coverage. It almost killed us in this game and the florida game. We have to improve our special teams before it finally does kill us.

Our offense looked really good Ainge is looking very accurute; we all know he has the arm strength, but i love the touch he's putting on some of his throws (the first td pass in the back of the end zone was a beauty). Our line also seemed to get more of a push as well.

Defense i agree. We seem to be getting a little better pass rush, and our secondary was flying all over the field. I'm still a little worried about our interior - I still think a good team can play smashmouth against us and run it down our throats. Look at auburn/arkansas. Auburn's D is built for speed and flying around the ball, arkansas basically overpowered them and took it to them. That's my fear with us.

Other than that, we seem to improve every week. I think the offense is getting more and more confident, too.

Absolutely. Dont forget the catches he had, along with his return yards. Thats over 150 (estimate) total yards! He is the fastest player on our offense. What I'd like to see is some packages with Foster and Coker, kinda like what Auburn did with Cadillac and Ronnie. Line up Coker in the slot (which they have done some) and have Foster in the backfield, run Coker in motion to pull a guy off the middle, then run Foster, do some reverses, things like that.

definantly agree here also, would open up the possibility for some big gains!

the only team capable of returning a kick on us (LSU) can't field one, so i'm not worried. i don't think anybody else has the talent to do it. maybe Arkansas, but i need to see more from them.

I watched the game for a second time yesturday and completely agree that the hit Battle made on Meach when he was 2 steps out of bounds should have definetly been called!
However Battle got a taste of his own medicine... I don't know if anyone else saw this as I had to rewind and put it in slow motion, one of our huge assistant coaches or grad assistants casually walked over to Meach as the play ended and Battle was turning around after laying the illegal hit. This assistant or what ever he is put his shoulder right in Battles' mouth and he dropped to his knees. The assistant walked over to Meachem, congradulated him on the play and continued down the sideline as Battle tried to find out who knocked him out. Phil came into view right away yelling at the offical for not calling it but Battle definetly got what he deserved!

Did anyone else see that and see which assistant it was who laid one of the better hits of the night?? He looked like a big ole bouncer protecting our boys on the sidelines. :matrix:
