The Crompton kid is supposed to be very special but I find it hard to believe that Ainge will sit after what I have seen so far. I hope Crompton thinks he can come in and start because I sure would like to sign him.

If UT can beat Auburn and Georgia in the next two weeks... Ainge will be the man. How often does a QB start for four consecutive seasons? This might even amount to Heisman contention.

Milo - Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, Tennessee has a little bit of a history of starting freshmen QBs recently (Manning and Clausen).

...but you are officially the first guy I've seen mention Ainge for Heisman. :D

Now you guys know that a Vol is not allowed to win the Heisman ;) The so-called experts from Big-T11N country will never allow it :bad:
However, Vols can still hope for a 2nd place finish
The Vols are tied for most 2nd place finishers (4) for the Heisman :banghead:

Hank Lauricella '51, Johnny Majors '56, Heath Shuler '93, and Peyton Manning '97

Heisman winners:

1951 TB Dick Kazmaier, Princeton
1956 QB Paul Hornung, Notre Dame
1993 QB Charlie Ward, Fla State
1997 DB Charles Woodson, Michigan

Notables: Tennessee was 10-0 during the 1951 regular season and won the National Championship. Lauricella, HB in the single wing offense, finished with 881 rushing yards (7.9 avg)and 8 tds and passed 24-of-51 for 352 yds, 5 tds, 5 int. Also had 116 kick return yards. Lauricella also led the Vols in punting duties, kicking 43 punts. Kazmaier led the nation in total offense and Princeton was ranked 6th.

Paul Hornung is still the only Heisman winner from a team with a losing record, 2-8 Notre Dame. Hornung edged Tennessee halfback Johnny Majors by 72 points. Jim Brown of Syracuse came in fifth. Tennessee was 10-0 during the regular season. Majors led the Vols, single wing, with 36-of-59 passing for 552 yards, 5 tds, 3 int, 549 rushing yards, 135 kor yds, 86 pr yds, and led the Vols with a 43.0 yd per punt average.

Heath Shuler was the 1st QB taken in the 1994 NFL draft (no. 3 overall), while Charlie Ward went undrafted and opted to play in the NBA. Shuler was 184-of-285 for 2353 yards, 25 tds, and 8 int, 73 rush yds + 3 rush tds.

Charles Woodson is the only defensive player to win the award. Peyton Manning had one the finest seasons in NCAA history. He was 287-of-477 for 3819 yards, 36 passing tds, 39 total tds, and only 11 int.
