This in not necessarily a tough choic for who sould start the florida game. But does anyone think of how starting clausen will hurt ainge for development down the road? Next year we wont have rick. Only ainge. By not starting ainge he is not getting as much game experience for next years team. I think clausen is the best qb at the moment and for the season so far. But I dunno how this will shape up in the long run. Whats everybody's thoghts on this?

The best quarterback should start. Eric will have competition for next year, so he should get used to it. I think that teaching Eric that the best qb will start is the best lesson you could teach him. I am sure he already knows this, and I am sure that he agrees with it, that is just the kind of person he is. Same thing next week. If Rick has a poor day, then Eric can take the reins. Just my opinion, but I think that the best player is going to play will also be the best overall plan for the team, regardless of the position or seniority.

If it's development you are worried about, either start a JV team or hire a sports psychologist. CPF can only worry about the next play.

Well, it isn't like Rick can't be pulled out if HE has a bad day and Ainge put back in. What's the point of having two quarterbacks if you aren't going to utilize both? I have read accounts where PLAYERS said Rick calmed the team down and gave them confidence. I don't see why everybody's getting so worked up over the choice of who starts at quarterback. I thought CPF and CRS got paid to worry about that kind of stuff.

The coaches conduct practices every day to determine the best players to win the next game. Erik had play to play competition last year from Brent and he did ok till he got hurt.. While Rick will be gone next year, I hope Erik will feel the pressure from Jonathan Crompton and then Jimmy Clausen. I feel that stiff competition is the greatest motivator. With all that having been said, if Rick practices and exhibits leadership better he should start against the Gators. But that's why we pay the big bucks to our coaching staff to make those decisions.....

I hear ya vfttb, that's why I used the word "hope". From what I've heard Pete Carroll and Darth Visor would like to have Jimmy come their way. As we found out last year, can't have enough quality qbs. :shades:

Rick is the man. Fulmer supposedly named him starter for Gainseville. He SHOULD have started UAB. He outperformed Ainge in EVERY category in spring and fall practice.

I think Rick can make the plays and short passes to beat UAB, but we'll have to throw it down field to have a chance against Florida and LSU.

Ainge has to get back mentally. I don't think we can beat either of two without him playing, and playing well.

I agree, we will need either some outstanding play at QB or our secondary will have to turn a 180.

Both Chavis and Fulmer have agreed the LBer's didn't do their job in pass coverage

No Rick cannot throw it 80 yards but he can throw it 50+, but if he's having to throw it 50+ yards then UT is already in trouble.

One Question?

How many of you saw the entire UF-Wyoming game?

I did

Why can't we throw it deep?
Doing that doesn't mean we are in trouble. We hit bombs in the Peyton and Tee era and we smashed people.
