The Maxwell club announced Erik Ainge was a semifinalists for the 2006 Maxwell award (player of the year). Coach Fulmer is a semifinalists for the George Munger award (coach of the year). I know both are longshots to win, like 1,000,000 to 1! But, who would of thought we would be up for awards this time last season. What a difference a year makes! (aka-what a difference a new offensive cordinater makes!)

I think we should have awards on this site. "Most well-reasoned post;" "Most correct diatribe;" "Longest post without a spelling error;" "Poster most likely to post something with which Hatvol agrees (himself)."

I doubt that you would be eligible for any awards. As much as all of us tolerate your presence here, that glaring 'gator' in your name removes you from contention for any awards from VolNation.

Erik Ainge named as 1 of 15 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award. Coach Fulmer named as 1 of 15 semifinalists for the George Munger Award. Saa-lute!

Who predicted this?

I saw this too, and I too think its a honor that they are being nominated. It shows that the rest of the country is seeing the success thats going on in Knoxville. I think Fulmer has a chance to win, he's done a real good job keeping this team prepared and focused every game. They are alot more disciplined this year, leading the SEC in least amount of penalties, thats just awesome.

Wow. Great news for Ainge. Actually, I think the Maxwell award is more fair when compared to the Heisman.

Great news!

Maxwell actually got it right last year over the media hype driven Heisman imho.

sure it is an honor but i watched phil fulmer play football at ut in late 60's and watched him coach since...he could give a rats rear end about awards, i bet he would swap all the awards for a win in scaro. i would venture to guess the only things that truly matter to coach phil, is hisfamily and their feelings about him, and doing his best for ut. say what you want about cpf, he bleeds orange, and had he been smokey last weekend, the bama player would not have lived to talk about being bit!

hmmmm, he's not listed for a Biletnikoff Award. Unless I'm blind...

The Biletnikoff Award

I think that list was probably made preseason. Mario Manningham isn't on there either. He, Meachem, and Calvin Johnson have been probably the top 3 receivers so far this season. I'm probably forgetting someone, but those guys are definitely top 5.

true, true. I didn't look for the others, just Meachem but you are correct. I expect Meach to be up for that award.

The whole gist of the Heistman is stupid. Defensive players and linemen aren't even considered.

I think the position awards are better to look at anyway. At least there is some semblence of apples to apples, even if the BYU guy throws against air (insert WAC QB or WR here).

Shame Cut can't be nominated...this turnaround is more his than CPF's.

Coach Cut probably will be nominated for the Assistant Coach of the Year Award. But, I don't think this year's turnaround is more his than CPF. I would say he is ONE of the reasons for turnaround, not the major reason. Fulmer has shown great leadership by bring Cutcliffe back. The two have worked together to put UT back on track but at the end of the day CPF is the Head Coach and he makes the decisions and I would say he's made some good ones.

There have been OL nominated in the past, and Charles Woodson........ but your right, they really aren't considered by whatever secret society selects the Heisman. Thats not right.
