Here is what I have perceived from previous years to this year. The offense if virtually the same this season from the last with the exception to the notable loss of last season's leading passer, Clausen, and leading receiver, Banks. The biggest difference seems to be emergence of Ainge.
The offensive line is playing better than last season. I think the running game is better, because the defenses are not cheating like they did last season. I don't think opponents feared Clausen and his arm strength. Ainge already throws the ball better than Clausen ever did.
Funny how for 3 seasons, Clausen complained about the receivers, and now that he is gone and there is a new quarterback, everybody thinks they are now great?
I think the change back to a large blocking fullback has helped the run game tremendously. Fleming was a great all-around fullback, but the Vols seem to have more success with a pure blocker at the fullback position.
So yes, I think it is a combination of all 3, however, I also think that Ainge is the key as well. If Shaeffer were used all the time, I think defenses would still be stacking the line and our rushing stats would be similar to last season. Shaeffer's throws do not seem to be as accurate as Ainge, so receiving stats would not be as good.... and there still might be complaints about receivers not meeting potential.
