Ainge Show

that was why I listened. Unfortunately it seems to have become less of a focus. I remember one in particular where he broke down what certain WR could do against certain defenses, why they did it and what the QB expected (used Swain and Meachem as examples). That is what would separate his show from any others in Knoxville

I think he's finding out how hard it is to fill 4hrs a day 5days a week & still be original & entertaining. it's still good but he needs to be a little more focused on staying on topic & not rambling on so much. say what you want but that's one thing john & Jimmy do very well

Ainges dry mouth and smacking in the mic is very annoying also. He gets on my nerves. I can only handle so much of his dumb jokes and constant repeating sentences from Aingey.

Does Erik bring anything to the table anymore. When his show began it was a refreshing take on the game.
Now it just seems boring with nothing but silly dribble.
He's trying out for the Harlem Globe Trotters, maybe?

I think someone should give Johnny Majors his own show. I love hearing that guy, he won't stop talking whenever on a show, and has endless stories. He would never have any guests and would never take calls, he'd pretty much just tell stories for 6 hours, but I would love it. TSR is contractually obligated to give shows to former Vols so hopefully they make that happen.

This is actually factual..

I like the Ainge show a lot for reasons already mentioned. Their amount of commercials is insane, the show comes on at 7am with 2-4 minutes of commercials, then they'll talk for 5, then go to another commercial. Then they'll do the thing where they pretend to talk football with a sponsor who is just hawking a product.

Having said that, the thing that incenses me the most is the volume level between the show and commercials, it is ridiculous. Most of the time I'll podcast so that I can skip all the parts I don't want to hear.

Ainge is great most days. Houston Kress may be taking over for J-Bay (who may be better suited for a non-sports media spot). EA has some bouts of crudity but at least he can break down a defense and he can relate to what current players are going through.

Treece and Swain have great insights too, and now they've hired Steve Phillips from WBIR. The other station is not a good alternative - especially in the a.m.

I love the show personally. It's not perfect. But it is "all Vol" with a lot of sponsors. Lol

I was able to listen to Treece's show yesterday with Steve Phillips and I thought it was great. I've always liked Treece's show but it was greatly improved with Phillips. Now if they could find a way to get rid of the Seth guy on Swain's show that would be great.

You could always listen to Mike & Mike. You could all of the up to date info in why Notre Dame and the Big Ten are so great. You may even get some great insight why the SEC will fall on it's face this year and years to come. Of course this is only between talk of their aspirations to be on Dancing with the Stars. Downloaded the TSR app, and that is about the only sports talk I listen to during the workday.

TSR is the best radio for the Vols. I listen to it usually everyday at work...but the commercials are ridiculous. Every 15 min for 5 mins or so.

The Ainge show just continues to get worse. Jay Bay is as bad as Heather Harrington and Ainge keeps using the potty humor. If Ainge had a real co-host and cleaned up his act a bit, it could be a great show. I can't listen to it anymore.

Let me tell you guys something. Ive been listening to sports talk radio for a long time. im most cities the radio hosts are journalists that dont have much football IQ in regards to actually being in trenches, experiencing what its like to be on the team. they are a bunch of sports nerds that would rather debate all day about admin, rules, coaching and anything else besides the actual X's and O's.
The majority of shows patronize the callers in a condescending way and make them feel stupid. On TNSportsradio the hosts respect all of the callers even when the callers say dumb things or try to be funny when they're not. They always make the callers feel good and appreciated.
You wont find this in most sports radio programs
I live in Columbia SC and the sportstalk here is just plain terrible. They dont get any callers b/c the host has alienated all of them by constantly talking down to them. Heath Kline is his name. guy is grade A jerk.
Im thankful for EA and Jaybay and I think it takes a lot of balls for them to be doing what they are doing. going against the flow, taking on the big bad Sportsanimal, saying what they want to say, breaking down games, calling out UT Admin when needed and having a hell of a lot fun at the same time.
I mean what are you guys complaining about? you're jaded!
Ainge, Swain, Hooker, etc these guys are a major asset to Tennessee Vol fans

Amen Brother - Both need to grow up or that show won't last.

You are right.
Look at how that stuff ruined Howard Stern's career.

Stern is/was a shock jock in one the largest radio markets in the country who's listeners were/are much more culturally diverse than Knoxville, Tennessee. To the contrary, Ainge's show, a sports show (if you can call it that), is in a medium market in the bible belt where the population is much more conservative than that of New York. Regardless, I would venture to say that his advertisers will not continue to support his stupid, juvenile, rank, locker-room humor.

I'll second that Columbia comment. I have to travel to Columbia a few times a year. The sport talk there is hard to find and then when you find it....you wish you hadn't.

I know the Sports Animal morning show is everyone's favorite target but I just cannot understand how they stick w/ the status quo on there. I know that it's Mickey's station and he makes the decisions, but those 3 are god-awful at what they do and you'd think as a businessman he'd see that. How can MD not recognize how poor that product is and that something has to be done to upgrade it. They are the flagship station for UT sports, which is overwhelmingly football driven, and none of them can have an intelligent conversation on the topic. I am not being personal, as I think all 3 of them are probably great people, but they absolutely stink at sports talk, particularly when it comes to football. I'm sure their ratings are good due to lack of competition, but that show is awful and it's a shame that it is all they have to offer.

Here in Chattanooga, we have Sports Talk and Gumm & Guthrie. Those are only on the drive home. Sports Talk is good for for a few minutes, but then they start talking about who was the best high school tail back in 1947 or softball coaches from 1963. I know they are trying to appeal to the masses, but they alienate the younger listener. Gum and Guthrie are OK in small doses, but sometimes listening to them is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

At least with TSR you know what you are going to get, and you get a lot of it. Tennessee Football.
