A'Mon Lane out of Alabaster, Ala., just finished his freshman season before the recruiting attention blew up. That's not normal for a 9th grader but sometimes prospects blossom at an earlier age than most. This is the case with the 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety that is running a 11.2 100 meter before he enters his sophomore season.
"I was pulled up to varsity as an 8th grader," Lane said. "I played my entire 9th grade season on varsity for the 7a state champs. I started as the dime in our dime package, and started on all four special teams. I led our kickoff team in tackles. That's when I started turning some heads."
That production lead to early interest from some of the top programs in the country.
"I started hearing from a lot of schools this year. Schools like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Miss State, Ole Miss, UAB and Georgia State. They all liked what they were seeing."
Sometimes you will see a domino effect after the first school breaks the ice with an offer. That's what happened when Ole Miss offered last week. Since that took place Maryland, Tennessee and Florida State have pulled the trigger.
