Joseph Phillips, 2024 Outside Linebacker
The four-star Class of 2024 linebacker/edge rusher from Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, Ala., returned to Tennessee this weekend, spending Saturday and part of Sunday with the Vols. He said they’re now in his top three, and he plans to take an official visit to Tennessee in the coming months, most likely during the season.
“They showed me how they would want to use me, but they were also showing me how I could be better in high school, as well,” he said. “Nobody’s really just (said), like, ‘This might be a way to help you.’ They didn’t force me to be like, ‘Oh, when are you going to commit to us?’ or, ‘How do you want to do this? You got any dates?’
“I mean, I want to create value for myself. I want to be like a Micah Parsons,” Phillips said, referring to the star outside linebacker for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. “This year, I think he’s going strictly D-end, but he’s got the ability to play inside, out. He can go everywhere.”
“They’re treating me better than (almost) anybody,” he said. “Of course, I’m going to go back — got to.”
callahan“Them two schools, they’re not forcing me to commit early or anything,” he added, referring to Georgia and Tennessee. “They want me to, but they’re giving me the opportunity to take my time.”
