* Auburn has held the commitment of Montevallo (Ala.) wide receiver J.J. Evans since February and that pledge is strong, at "95 percent" according to the Top247 talent. Alabama, which has hosted him several times, as well as Tennessee are a pair keeping tabs on the big pass catcher. He is considering an official visit to one of those programs as early as next week and/or weekend.

Auburn picked up the verbal commitment of in-state wide receiver J.J. Evans back in February and his recruitment has been fairly straight forward since. In talking to him in between games at the NFA 7v7 National Championships, he put a number on the strength of his commitment.

"95 percent all Auburn," he said. "I have a great relationship with all of the coaches down there. Everybody is family down there, they'll treat you right. I mean, I just love it down there. "But I still haven't visited a lot of the schools that offered me so I plan on going around, meeting some of the coaches."

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Evans boomed to near 20 scholarship offers in between the tail end of the 2018 season through the New Year. His junior campaign as a pass-catcher was a top three effort in the history of the state of Alabama, hauling in 74 passes for 1,706 yards and 18 touchdowns. Not bad for a converted safety playing his second year of high school ball.

Since, it's been about rounding out his game as a route-runner and polishing up ahead of senior year. But other SEC programs could get him on campus before it begins.

"I haven't really looked at official visits yet, but I can go to Alabama or Tennessee this week," Evans said. "They just want me to come up and chill with some of the players, they both have cookouts. I haven't been to Tennessee but I've been to 'Bama. "I want to see the Tennessee environment, see if the coaches are cool and down to earth.'Bama is pretty cool, I like it down there. It's more business-like, I like it."

Evans is currently ranked as the No. 30 wide receiver prospect in the class of 2020 per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite measure. He is a top 10 prospect in the state of Alabama.
